Lug Nut Wont Come Off - Keeps Spinning
Hi Guys
I took my car to a shop to have my summers swapped for winters. Unfortunately they were unable to remove the front passenger side wheel because one of the lug nuts kept spinning.
The tire shop said the bolt kept spinning with the lug and that the bolt needs to be cut from the inside and replaced. Unfortunately they were simply a tire shop and unequipped to handle something like this.
They said the likely cause is the lug nuts were an incorrect size and caused this. I cant verify this as the lugs were aftermarket and provided with the vehicle.
I have a couple of questions:
1) Is cutting the bolt and replacing it possible? If so is it a big job for a mechanic?
2) How do I verify the lug nuts are correct?

If the stud is spinning with the nut then the spline that is on the inboard side of the stud where it is pressed into the rotor hub is stripped.
That stud will have to be drilled or cut out if that is the case.

You most likely have a stripped stud. I recently had this same issue at Discount Tire on my Honda Accord, when I purchased 4 new tires. The crappy thing is the replacement stud cost $8, but the labor to do it was $50. Since they could not fix it at Discount, I had to take it to a mechanic across the street.
I just don't know if it was the jackals at the Honda Dealer or the jackals at Discount that stripped it.
