Hahah it was a joke, because I'm notorious for driving slow and my thick spokes.

A 235 on a 9.5"?
The recommended size for a 9.5" is a 275. If you don't run enough tire to protect your wheel you are leaving yourself open to possible damage beyond what would occur under normal circumstances.

I agree this should not have happened but it sounds to me like you are also partly to blame.

time to go digging on my hard drive for all the broken volk and work wheel pictures.

just because a wheel is cheaper doesn't mean it's weaker. could be cheaper because of the casting process costs, business costs, etc. Just because Volk's are more expensive it doesn't mean they're gonna break. Volk not only cost so much because of the process they use to make their wheels, but because they are VOLKS...it's a name.

I've had rota's before and so have my friends. I've seen one rota bent in my 7-8 years of modifying cars. I've bent SSR's before...does that mean they suck? No. It means at the time I sucked at driving and hit a pothole. I also was driving on ****ty streets with a lightweight wheel not meant to take that kind of impact. A 24-30lb wheel is gonna take an impact way better than a 15-20 lb wheel. Bent wheels happen.

Also...don't put a 235 on a 9.5. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind stretched tires, but that's just stupid.

Personally, I buy more high-end wheels now because they usually look better and offer more customization but if I was looking at track wheels specifically I would look at some of the rota's.

Soooo....try not to hit a pothole next time. I've bent OEM wheels on potholes...even the stock g35 wheels.

my 2cents...

235 on a 9.5rim..thats stretching it..literally..and if ur friend drives an EVO - boosted.turbo.all wheel drive...thats alot of power NOT to be using the right tire size recommended...

as for ROTAS - i dont think they're the problem. ya they might be a cheaper alternative...to the high dollar stuff...but not everyone has deep pockets or has other financial stuff...i've never had problems with rotas myself..had them in my hatch n integra...

i guess going fast on the freeway.n hitting a pothole..yah..that would be cause for problems
-reminds me of when i was driving my cusin's accord on 19x8 running 215s, axis - seven mods...we bent the lip like a taco..broke the radiator support n radiator...but missed the blackwidow front bumper or the rest of the kit..no damage....and it was lowered...@ 80+mph too...

i think any rim would be a candidate for damage at highway speeds n potholes...and those pics with extreme things, i bet thats from doing crazy driving or something...then thats just putting ur life in danger...

Don't wheels supposed to go through some serious testing, before they hit the public roads? I could imagine the legal consequences if a wheel breaks and causes serious injury to anyone.

there's probably a disclaimer somewhere in there that says "for offroad use only".

i think i actually read somewhere that certain tracks have bans against rota wheels, so you can't race with them on b/c of the problems they've had before. Trying to keep everyone safe, w/o having tires flying at them i guess....

Heavy wheels suck for performance, mpg, and handling. However, weight of the wheels has no direct correlation to the strength. Strength comes from the material used, the cast or forged process used, their production processes, etc...

If you buy a knockoff wheel with no R&D, made from low-grade materials, made with uncertified processes, using the cheapest casting methods....what kind of wheel do you think you'll end up with? Doesn't matter what brand it is, or how much it weighs.

But any reasonable person would use wheels for their intended use which would be on a car for driving regardless on street or track. "For offroad use only" sounds funny because some off these wheel should be "off the road!" LOL...... I thought products with "Offroad use only" are not allowed to be on highways for smog issues not because they are unsafe to use? Then no one would use the product because it is strictly unsafe to use anywhere. Sorry for going on this. We are studying this in one my favorite subjects in Law School "Torts" Strict Products Liabilty!
