Shocks & Struts?

Anyone have any info on aftermarket shocks and struts? Have any of the manufacturers released an ETA on these items?
TIA

C'mon guys.....none of you tech wizards know anything about shock upgrades for the Coupe.

Re: Shocks & Struts?

Single rebound only adjustable Koni's sports (twin tube design) are out right now. These shocks were designed to offer less (preset) compression dampning then oem 350Z shocks, but as such should offer more then oem coupe shocks. $750-$700

Double adjustable (rebound and compression) Tokico D-spec shocks(twin tube) will be out any time. They can be adjusted to softer then oem or much firmer. Product offering is supposed to be a shocks and springs package as well as just shocks. Tokico is currently listing the shocks in print ads, but they haven't hit the dealers yet, but ETA is anytime.
$650@ shocks only $800@ shocks/springs

Bilstein is in R&D for their HD shock. Bilstein makes a premium comfort ride optional suspension package for Nissan Japan. I talked to Bilstein and they said, that system has nothing to do with what they will offer. Of note is the fact that the HD shock is a monotube shock and it's a shock that can be revalved if desired at a respectable per shock price. $N/A (should be lower then the other two)

GSedan35: I'm personally looking forward to that D-Spec shock/spring combo. Do you know if Tokico will be offering a different setup for each individual car (350Z, Gcoupe, Gsedan)? Or are they only coming out with a 350Z application? The reason I ask is because of different spring heights. Thanks.

Re: Shocks & Struts?

Compression rate is always matched to vehicle weight and spring stiffness.[the sum of the wheel rate with the tire sidewall stiffness and wheel flexing stiffness in series]........compression rates are usually only changed when changing tires and/or wheels vs oem.

Rebound is the critical adjustment variable........necessary to adjust as the shock valving progressively wears.

Instead of changing oem shocks every 30k, as they change you can get double or triple life by just increasing rebound a notch or two every 15k..

Many times a $200 adjustable shock is much more cost effective from the life standpoint alone!

Re: Shocks & Struts?

The 350Z of course weighs less then the coupe, uses the same springs and it's shocks use more compression dampning. A case of Nissan tuning each to their believed buyer base.

The Koni's split the difference between the oem coupe shock and oem 350Z shock. Moving the Konis away from the Z's firmness and towards the coupe is a direction I do not care for and was a marketing move to capture a greater range of buyers for Koni. The Tokico's can be set to be softer then oem and adjusted beyond that, giving back the compression dampning that Koni took out. Rebound only control (rate of return) is fine for oem rates, but double adjustability offers greater flexibility in actually netting desired results to modify behavior. Furthermore rebound only control does not deal with spring rate increases as well as Koni will claim, even when well below Koni's rate range.

Re: Shocks & Struts?

Penske has both single and double adjustable shocks out, and i did not mention the Moton's, both shocks would apply for someone that is going to track the car or has extreamly deep pockets (man I'd love to have the Penske DA's)

Ground cotrol is developing thier advance design shock as well, (they have a set running on SCC's Z right now), but release has been pushed back as they try and figure out how to manufacture a special (for them) rear coilover system spring mount. Once they get the rear mount made, their sleave coilovers system will be released as well.
