Not all tires are created equal? Certain brands are wider/thinner than others?

Is this true? A shop told me Toyos, for example, tend to be thinner in width compared to other brands. When putting a 275 Toyo next to a 275 Yokohama, the Toyo is clearly thinner -- 3/4" thinner to be exact.

Does anyone have any knowledge of which tires produce which result? And does this pertain to the sidewall as well? Meaning do certain tires, with the same specs, have a thicker/thinner sidewall than others?

yes. Some companies cheat too Take the Dunlop direzza Z1 star specs, they typically run about 20mm wider than advertised widths. THis is so they can fit into a rules category for autoX and still dominate.

There is also no standard of measurement as far as I know. Some mfg's may measure from shoulder block edge to shoulder block edge, while others may take a total section width, etc. No big deal really though.

If you're pushing the limits of fitment, or even trying for a flush-type fitment, then the differences actually are a "big deal."

well, I would hope research would get you the tire you need. Depends on if you are sizing tires for looks, or a target performance goal. Ultimately, to me its no big deal. Worst case, you get a different size/brand if you are not happy.
