Summer or All-Season Tires?

I need some help in figuring out what type of tires to buy for the summer time (summer vs. all season). In the winter I run Blizzaks on my OEM 17" wheels. For the summer I have a set of 19" Rays.

My problem is that I live in Calgary, Alberta and there is still a chance of cold weather and possibly snow during the time of the year when it is to warm to run winter tires (April - November). In the past I have always had all season tires year round so I have never had to worry about getting stuck with summer tires when late or early season snow falls.

Any suggestions on whether I should get summer tires or just a good set of performance all seasons to run during the summer time?

Depends on your driving style, IMO. There are some good '3-season' performance-oriented tires out there, but if you have winters, you may want to go with hi-perf summers.

To answer your question, I run Toyo Proxes TPT's (A/S) and am happy with the summer performance. Blizzaks in winter.

As long as you're running dedicated snows in winter you're fine to choose what you want for other seasons.

If you're more serious about performance driving go with summers, otherwise stick with all seasons which are usually less $$.

Although I'm a bit more aggressive than the average driver, I spend 90km a day commuting so serious performance isn't a must. I just want to have a bit better performance than the OEM Bridgestone A/S tires that the car came with.
