i'd get sticky tires for the stock wheels instead.

why do so many people frown on chrome wheels?

because most chrome wheels are made to flashy, rather than performance oriented. they're heavy too.

all those jdm wheel companies that offer chrome/high polished wheels like work/ssr/volk still get lots of love
