First off....yes I searched, but I am still confused...a little. So I figured I would just ask.

I have a 2005 sedan, 6 speed with the stock 18 inch rims. 31000 miiles and time for 4 new tires. I am going to go with 245/45r18. First off I live in Houston, TEXAS. I am thinking I need some type of ultra high performance all season tire????

Here is what I am debating:

My driving style:
Not very aggresive most of the time....2 kids and wifey.
But I do like to get on it occasionally, but not usually on very windy roads

Potenza re960as for $217 each
BF goodrich g force super sport for $179 each
kuhmo ecst asx for $136 each
any other suggestions??

What I want:
Best bang for the buck
Tires that will hopefully last a while
safe



Potenza sound like by far a better tire, but saving 40 to 70 dollars per tire adds up. Especially when I am in the next round of cuts if my employer decides to lay more people off. What would I lose by going with a cheaper tire here....less grip in wet weather? Anyhow, I know it is partially just preference but I figured I would get some recent opinions. Everything I searched for on here seemed to be a few years old.

MORE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

The guys at discount tire co said it would cost me about $10 per tire for a rebuild kit for the tire pressure sensors.....Does that sound right. Do they need a kit to install them on new tires. Should I expect this charge anywhere I get them installed.

Discount seems to have $100 per tire in fees. Sams club seems minimal in fee's $15 per tire for warranty. Tirerack shipping costs eat up the savings and then I still have to pay someone for install disposal. But I am trying to get Sams to match prices. he he he. Any incite to these places would be appreciated.


If I order from Tire rack, what is a fair price I should look at paying for installation, disposal, and stuff for all 4 tires.

I've used tirerack for the last 2 sets of tires I've bought- always a good experience and quick delivery.

The costs of install will completely depend on where you go. Lots of places where I live don't have whatever equipment is needed to mount that size tire. I think the disposal fee is a set amount.

I thought if you used the OEM rim, the TPMS is just mounted inside the rim and no rebuild kit would be needed. I used aftermarket rims and don't miss the sensors at all.

I can't comment on the tires you're looking at, but tirerack has decent owner reviews.
