is it fine to use two brand of tires for F and R?
He turns VDC off when drifting. Leaves VDC on for daily driving. Looks like a mis-communication.
I don't think running different brands or even different tread patterns will be an issue. But you probably don't want to have a big difference between the rubber compound (performance category) of the two. As an extreme example, you wouldn't want to run max performance summer tires on one end and regular passenger all-seasons on the other. You wouldn't notice it during normal, easy driving, but in spirited driving and especially in an emergency maneuver, having different levels of grip on either end of the car will cause unpredictable results.

the problem is gone now, i think it was more because i had new tires in the rear and semi-old tires in the front. now that the rear wear is catchin up it doesn't go off anymore.
for daily driving its not dangerous at all, and you won't know the difference.
if you track your car or pull very hard corners (to the point where you are sliding and VDC is off) you'd feel which tires have stronger grip and the car might handle funny (since the front or rear may be gripping more), but if you're a good drive you'd know how to correct it and adjust your driving style, but i don't suggest it on the track since the car doesn't seem to slide sidewards evenly.

Push that button and VDC is off.. you override VDC and drift.
I dont see what that has to do w him having different tires.. You seem to be confused.

My post states that I have driven w different tires and also my friend that drifts his G has as well.. never mentioned anything about VDC..
The point of that post was to say that different tires wont affect your car which is the answer to op ? "is it fine to use two brand of tires for F and R".
Would it work? probably. Is it ideal? No. Why one would compromise the handling of the car with two different tire brands is beyond me.
Then again, running 4 lug nuts vs 5 is probably okay also.
