All-season performance tire recommendation?

When I bought my '04 6MT used, the dealer had just put on some mushy touring tires so I am glad to finally put an a set of all-season performance tires (I still have to deal with occasional light snow).

I have read some pretty good reviews on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, but they are a little too expensive for me. More in my price range, the latest generation Goodyear Eagle GT seems to get pretty good reviews. I especially like the aggressive square look of this tire. Thoughts on this tire, or do you recommend a different one in this price range?

Also, I wouldn't mind a slightly wider, lower profile tire, but I don't want a dramatic change in the look. Would you recommend going with 235/50s on the stock 17s or just stick with the 215/55s? The price is almost identical on the GTs.

Thanks

I have the Michelin PS A/S tires and they are a very good tire, I really like them, but you are right, they are pricey.

Yokohama Avid W4S, good tire, good wear rating and reasonably priced.

The Bridgestone RE960AS is very comparable to the Michelin Pilot A/S, but it's a little bit less expensive, still not cheap nonetheless but it's an amazing tire for an all season. The Eagle GT is an OK tire at best, but you get what you pay for.

For sizes, you can get 225/55-17 or 235/50-17. If you're buying tires, definitely get something wider than the stock 215's. I always thought that was a pretty wimpy tire for a car that performs like the G.

I realize you get what you pay for. No doubt, the PS A/S is a better tire than the Eagle GT, but for the price the GT seems to be a pretty good deal based on the reviews below. Plus, it's a damn good looking tire IMHO (more of a square profile).

Yokohama Avid W4S, 400AAA ($123)
Goodyear Eagle GT, 400AAA ($125)
Bridgestone RE960AS, 400AAA ($173)
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, 500AAA ($184)

if you're trying to get the most bang for the buck...I'd consider the General Exclaims. I am considering going with these this summer. I run blizzaks in the winter, so I'm not concerned about winter traction with these.

i went with Kumho Ecsta ASX (Ultra-High Perf All Season) in 225/50. great tire, great price. they just don't spend as much money on marketing which is why some people don't know them as well...

So are my RE01R's...my coworker mentioned the word "snow" today and I covered his mouth and told him to, "shush, my tires might hear you!"
