Re: Good news on the Tokico D-Spec Shocks

These are now available. I have a question, do these shocks lower the car at all?

Anyone know how these new Tokico's would compare to the coilover kits out there, given you get a set of springs to go along with them?

no, shocks dont lower the car...

i had tokico shock/ struts b4 and they do wonders! probably better than the shocks that come with coilover kits...

i had eibach springs and tokico shocks, and i heard this is the BEST setup!

The Tokico D Spec shocks don't come with any springs, you just get the shocks/struts. Coilovers will be more adjustable, particularly the height. Since I've changed my sway bars, they seem to be overpowering the wimpy stock shocks. I don't want coilovers as I don't want to change the height of the car at all, so changing my shocks seems to most logical answer, also much cheaper than a complete set of coilovers.

Re: Good news on the Tokico D-Spec Shocks

Shocks can lower the car... if they happen to be shorter than the original shocks they are replacing. Like using the stock 350Z shocks/struts on a G35 Sedan will lower it by 1". I believe the Tokico D-Specs will come out for each of the 3 individual applications, G35s, G35c, and 350Z. So if a G35s owner were to use let's say the D-Specs for a 350Z, then he would lower his/her car by 1" just from the shocks/struts alone.

Re: Good news on the Tokico D-Spec Shocks

Sorry dude. Its the springs NOT the shocks or struts that predict vehicle height. Obviously if you put an extremely short shock or strut, it may compress the spring enough to make the car shorter, but then the suspension would not work then now would it. First bump you hit would rip the shock apart on the rebound. Anyone who has replace the suspension THEMSELVES could tell you this. Not trying to be rude, just quick and to the point.

OK if you look at an adjustable suspension you will notice two things. You can adjust the height via the springs and the "bound and rebound" via the strut or shock itself.

Hope this helps......as I always do!

Re: Good news on the Tokico D-Spec Shocks

av8r: I'm not saying one should lower the car by getting a shorter shock or strut. Obviously it would be a bad idea to use a 350Z strut with a G35 Sedan spring. That would mean the G35 spring would always be in a compressed state more so than normal just from the sprung weight of the car. And for what it's worth, yes I did replace my own 350Z suspension on my sedan as well as several other suspensions on my former car and other friends cars. This "debate" is kinda stupid but I'm just saying from a technical standpoint someone could lower their car with a shorter shock or strut alone, although you wouldn't want to do this. Now obviously if you did that you would want to get an appropriate spring that accomodates that said shock/strut properly. Hope that was more clear even though a bit pointless.
