Question Need Help With WINTER SETUP!

Hi, I just bought my G35 Coupe back in June so now I'm prepping for my first winter with it (NJ resident)

I plan to throw on a set of OEM wheels with Blizzak tires.

I found someone willing to sell me his 18" OEM wheels for $300. Is this a good price? Also, are 18" wheels too big for the winter setup? I was hoping to buy 17" OEM wheels...

Also, what specific Blizzak tires should I get?

Thanks in advance

DOnt do the blizzak's. They are horrible tires. Try the michelin X-Ice. :-)

I have dunlop m3's. Great tires, got me through some nasty snow storms. However, once they start to wear out, you will slide ALL over. Subscribed, as i need new ones...

nothing wrong with using the 18's, only difference is MAYBE there might be more options in the 17's, but thats a big maybe as more and more cars are coming equipped with 18 and larger wheels. Only thing you want to keep in mind with snow tires is width is important. They often suggest you stay skinny with them.

For example. OE 18" tire size is 225/45/18 and 245/45/18 in the rear all on the same size wheel. You'd probably want to stick with the 225/45/18 tire size because it will focus more weight into the tread than the 245/45 would.

What do you think of these?

Two, their overall tire size is a little tall, not mention big for the front wheels which are 18x7.5 according to the OP of that post.

As stated by the OP (Step_It_Up) 18x7.5 fronts and 18x8.5 rears with 245/50/18...thats a lot of side wall.

I would stick with your original plan to get another set of OEM 18's, $300 is a fair deal so long as they're not bent or curbed to hell. I would then look into going with a full set of either of these tire sizes - 225/45/18, 235/45/18 or even 245/45/18 - for winter. There is no real reason to stagger tire size on the OEM wheels, especially for winter use. Hell, even All-Seasons might work for you. I live a little further south in Maryland and close to the water, so all-seasons tend to get me through the winter, but I know a few people who sware by snow-dedicated tires.

I would seriously just get some nice all-seasons or snow tires and put them on your current OEM wheels. Sell the tires on them now if they're worth selling and then save up this winter for a nice set of performance wheels and tires for next year. Save yourself the $300 or more when you already have ideal winter wheels already on your car.

Really? I thought everyone on these boards swore by Blizzaks. I'll look into these tires.

Have always been on Blizzaks and loved them. The new Michelin X-Ice XI2 is giving the B-Stone a run for it but the final word will be out once the snow starts to fly a bit more. I predict the Blizzak will do better on bare ice vs the Mich due to their multi cell compound.

Why did you need it? Just curious. Also, how are the Blizzak LM-60s for a G35 Coupe? I ordered two 225/45/18 and two 245/45/18 for 18" OEM wheels.

Like to keep track of the forum orders and we receive credit for the orders. Been a great tire so far and tested well on our ice rink. Don't think you'll be disappointed at all.
