G35 Sedan: Winter Tires

Has anyone out there ordered winter tires for their G35 yet? My G35 will be delivered in early November with the sport tuned suspension package, and I'm thinking those summer performance tires won't do me much good during a Michigan winter. Anybody found good wheel/tire packages yet?

I've really only looked at tirerack.com for wheels and tires. I found some nice 5-spoke 17's that look similar to the stock 5-spokes for about $160 each. That's about the cheapest I could find that still looked decent and weren't smaller diameter.

Re: G35 Sedan: Winter Tires

The local Tire Warehouse dealer told me to wait until September when they blow out alloy wheels for about $125 cdn each (or $80 us).

I'm probably going to change to a 16" wheel and go with 215/60-16s as opposed to 17 inchers. More selection and much better price than with any 17s. I'm leaning towards the Michelin Arctic-Alpin as opposed to the Blizzaks (the only one in a 17 I could find) because of previous experience here in the Great White North (Edmonton, Canada).

I believe that the standard and sport wheels on the Canadian G35 are all-season tires. I wonder if those are good enough for the winter, so that we here can get summer performance tires on aftermarket 18's...hmmmmmm

The Tire Warehouse has four stores here in Edmonton. What city are you in? Their website is http://www.thetirewarehouse.com/
Wayne Harris has always treated me well and they have prices that rival Costco's. If you cantact them, they could probably ship them to you (no idea the cost though). When they put their wheels on sale in September, I'll repost after I get a set.

Re: G35 Sedan: Winter Tires

THe tires on the sport tuned suspension are All Season tires, so they are good for winter and snow my dealer said, just one small problem, he siad that the goodyear tires are specifically made for the G, and since so many G's have been sold they put all the tires into product and not aftermarket selling. so they are on back order, just dont mess up your tire!

Re: G35 Sedan: Winter Tires

If you get snow on the ground much of the year, a dedicated winter tire is MUCH better than an All Season, especially with RWD and high HP/torque. Besides, this way your summer tires will last longer.
I used to run a full set of Winters on my Supra when I found that I couldn't get up my driveway with All Seasons and 1" snowfall.
A couple of years ago, I ran my 4WD vehicle with All Seasons believing that I didn't need winter tires. During a moderate speed lane change, I skidded sideways down the icy road for about 100 yards and ended up on the median. Scared the $hit out of me, but my kids thought it was cool.
Next day I bought a full set of Winters on rims and have never regretted it.
