Tire scraping noise-Help!

I have a 2004 g35 coupe with about 60k. Tires on the back are 275-30-20 with DPE 20" wheels and other than the rims, there are no other mods. I changed the tires from toyo t1r to yoko s drives and ever since then i have been hearing a severe scraping sound from the driver side rear wheel. The sound comes when i hit a bump above 45 mph and occurs more often when more weight is in the car. I did a little experiment on the wheel to make sure the scraping was coming from the fender by taping it off and looking where the tape ripped. The tire ripped the tape right on the flanged edge of the fender. I dont know what to do! I was told that rolling the fenders was risky and every shop i bring it to says they wont take the risk. The springs and struts are original, so maybe replacing them will do the trick? toyo better than yoko? changing the camber (which i dont think is possible on stock suspension)?

Thanks for any help

Where are you located? You should be able to find a place in your area that can roll your fenders for you to get rid of the rubbing. The risk of messing up your fenders (paint chipping) when rolling your fenders is small assuming they are an experienced fender roller.

Rolling fenders isn't very risky if done right, that being said if a shop is iffy about doing it then I wouldn't trust them to do it. For what it's worth I've had both of my cars fenders rolled and never had a problem. Just have to heat it up and go slow.

Try seeing if your state or region has a car enthusiast board. They will often point you to the most mod-friendly shops who would have experience doing fender rolls.

I know at least where I live finding someone to roll fenders was pretty difficult. I found one reputable guy but he wanted to charge me 300+ dollars to do it. Thinking that's absurd, I decided to do the frowned upon self roll of the fenders with PVC pipe. Honestly, it really isn't as risky as people play it out to be. Yes, being careful the first couple rolls is important but you don't really have to baby it. Make sure you have a good heat source like a heat gun (luckily I had the 110 degree AZ sun as well ) and monitor things closely or have a friend to do that and go to work. I've got +15 offset 20" DPE's on a 285 rear wheel and with the minor roll I have no issues.

If so, I've got no real answer, the yoko s drives overall width is 10.7 inches as opposed to the toyo at 10.6 inches but I wouldn't think that added .1 inch would make much difference.

No problems for me, and I have both my fronts and rears rolled.

Marcus pretty much nailed it on the head. I would definitely heed his advice.

Great to hear that! You'll be amazed by how much clearance you actually have now with your rear fenders rolled.

Happy driving, sir!
