i recently rode in a black gtr with the black chrome looking wheels. i have been wanting to powdercoat my new wheels to match this color. does anyone know exactly what color these wheels are from the factory? are they painted? powdercoated? i was hoping the latter. if so then i could just order that specific powdercoat. let me know guys. thanks!

i got my g37 wheels custom painted to match the GTR rims. . .its been called ghost chrome, smoke grey. . .though regardless, to get that dark, reflective/mirror like finish, i'm not sure if powdercoating can do it. .. the paint job i got has quite a few layers of hyper sprayed on over a black base coat. ..that gets you the reflective finish, the hyper. . .more you spray on, the lighter it gets. .. i'm probably skipping a few steps as i'm sure its alot more technical.

so i take it this protects it from rock chips and whatnot? do you have any pics? id really like to see how it turned out. thanks for the reply btw!

below is the thread. . .the quality of paint is equal to OEM, and it has a few layers of clear coat, whcih would be the primary protection against chips. but i think powdercoating is overall typically more durable.

there are pros and cons for both (painting vs powdercoating). check your area to find someone competent enough to do one or the other and go along with their advice. Find very good pictures showing off what you want to show the shop. I'm pretty sure you could get the same finish with powdercoating as I have seen some smoked chrome finishes that are pretty close.

All I can say is just be prepared for it to not be a perfect match but pretty dam close.
