Post Couple Questions about Wheel/Tire

Hello guys,

I'm new to this forum just wanted to ask a few questions. I posted in the wrong place the first time so hopefully I can just get some answers.

I have a 2003 G35 Coupe. Brembo's, 18's.

I have a set of 20's that have been hanging out at my house for a while and I want to put them on the G. They are a non-staggered fitment, and I believe they are 9 or 9.5 inches all around. The tires that are on them are 225/30/20, the rims and tires are brand new. The offset of the wheel is +40 but I just ordered Ichiba V2 20 MM hubcentric spacers with the guidance of another forum member claiming they will fit and clear the brakes and look semi flush.

My question is, when I enter it into a wheel calculator it says the front is -2.5% difference, and the rear will be -5.1% difference because of the difference in stock tires to the tires that are on the 20's now. Will this work on the car? I still want it to ride decent, and I dont want any issues with the VDC. Can someone clear me up on this.

Thanks for your help Justin

The tires are definitely shorter than stock and by a fair amount. I've run R-compound tires on the G that were even shorter and it is doable but I had the VDC turned off most of the time when I was driving it.

So in short, it will work. But it probably won't look that great (in terms of filling out the wheelwells), your speedo will be off by quite a bit, and the ride with those short sidewalls is probably going to be relatively rough.

Ideally, you would want a fatter tires. A 245/30/20 or a 255/30/20 would be better especially since it appears that your 225's are pretty much stretched on wheels that wide.

I second adrenaline rush's post. I've read that ideally you should keep within 3% tolerances to minimize VDC issues. Going outside of this can be done, but there might be issues with VDC. Good luck.

thanks for your help. i ended up trading my ghetto rims and 300 bucks for a set of 20" r1 racing hypes, 20 x 8.5 and 20 x 10 with correct offsets of 25 and 30. the tire in the front is 0.2 % wheel diff, and the back is 4.0% so i should be ok

i quite like those wheels, good find

but you would have definitely wanted slightly bigger tires, and also to keep VDC happy the rear's should be a bit taller than the front, not the same size

Well how would I be so lucky to find out that these R1 racing wheels dont fit either. The front wheels do not fit over the brake caliper so I guess i'm going to have to run a wheel spacer anyway, this sucks. The guy I bought em from had the regular calipers. I could've swore that R1 Racing says they fit over the brembo's.

Last thing I'm going to ask is if I run 5 MM spacers I don't have to run extended lugs do I?

if doing 5mm do studs as well. or just get a 3mm spacer and no studs.
