Question about running aftermarket sport springs.

If you run just some sport springs, say Tein S-Techs... how do the stock struts hold up? Are they strong enough to not hit their bumpstops at the new lowered height? Are they strong enough to handle being under more pressure all the time without blowing out earlier?

With other cars I've had in the past, it was always known that if you just got sport springs, you'd either end up replacing your struts more often or you'd have to buy some aftermarket struts too.

Re: Question about running aftermarket sport springs.

It depends on the spring rate, actually. Since the S-techs
only have slightly higher spring rate on the front and
lower rate on the rear vs factory, your front shocks will
wear out a bit faster...but how fast? Probably will last a
good 25-30k miles or more on those stock struts.

I cut my front bumpstops by 1inch when I installed the
S-techs as TEIN recommends.. I felt one full bump on
an expressway with a very nasty dip (my other cars
full bump there too) but otherwise you still have plenty of stroke at that height. I was plesantly surprised by this.

You don't really need aftermarket shocks on the STechs
imho.

Re: Question about running aftermarket sport springs.

On the G, we have shocks not struts.

How long will the stock shocks last with aftermarket springs? It depends on the road conditions where you live and how aggressive of a driver you are. It's anybody's guess as to how long the stock shocks will last.

In the long run, you're probably better off getting aftermarket shocks since majority of them nowadays are designed to be re-built such as adjustable damping types from Tokico, Koni, etc.

i believe that we have both struts in the front and shocks in the rear. the front has a top hat and a lower spring perch welded on to it, there for making it a strut.

Sorry, man....but we have shocks all the way around. They both provide shock absorption but struts are very different in design when compared to shock absorbers.
