Difficulty of spring installation, should you pay?

Hi guys, I was curious as to just how difficult it is for a DIY on springs (Teins, Eibachs, whatever)...

Should it be taken to a shop to be installed for about 100 bucks? Or... is it possible for a normal joe to do it.

THanks

If you have some 19s that you want to sell... let me know

It's not difficult provided you have the right tools to do so. If you're planning on doing it yourself, you would need a spring compressor, impact wrench (optional - easier to do with), torque wrench, and various sized wrenches. It would also help if you had the service manual for reference. Should only take half a day to do all four. A 100 bucks isn't bad for a shop to do all 4 corners though....

if you're just trying to save money, then DON"T. pay to get it done.

if you want to get your hands dirty and spend time wrenching your car, then it is a DIY job. there's a write-up in the DIY section.

It's not hard to do, just need the usual hand tools. I didn't
use any air tools. The front was a little tricky, but not bad.

I would save that $100 for the alignment.

I've heard stuff about the dangers of using a spring compressor. Any tips from those who know would be appreciated.

Spring compressor are pretty hard to screw up. In fact I think its the easiest part. Don't buy one, just go to your local autozone and do the rent a tool program, its great. I actually bought my spring compressors becuase I ended up using it so often. Its a simple job and once you use the spring compressor you will be surprised as to how simple and uncomplicated the whole process is. I vote for doing it yourself at least once for the experience and understanding of how things link up down there. After that pay the shop to do it for you for any future changes.

I agree with the above. Spring compressors are not dangerous if you make sure the clamps are holding
the spring and spring seat properly. I wear goggles
when im in doubt (some struts are easier to hold
than others). Mine has a little pin that locks the
spring in place... I bought mine too since I do struts
quite often.
