stripped lug nut

When i was about to sand my 19 inch rays the other day i noticed that 2 lug nuts were missing. i took the wheel off regardless, sanded it, and then proceeded to put on 2 spare lug nuts from a friend... I didn't exactly think of the possibility that the wheel studs were stripped and put the lug nuts on anyways. The next day when i went to go sand my wheels again and all of the lug nuts came off... but one. i tried to get the lug nut off by twisting it and that helped some but it still wasnt off the whole way so being the dumbass that I am, I hammered the top of the lug nut hoping that it would get it back on the threads and id be able to unscrew it.

im pretty sure i hammered the wheel stud out of the hub wheel and i have no idea how the hell to get the lug nut off now... any suggestions?

thanks for reading

lol i did basically the same thing. I'd like to hear a good answer for this too. I'm probably going to try a compact hack saw of some sort to cut the stud off behind the wheel...

Had this happen with a lug on my old car. Drill a hole in the top of the lug and use a pair of pliers to turn it all the way out or pull it off. It will give you a hell of a lot more leverage. Then just go ahead and change the lug stud and any others that look to be worn or rusted out.

edit: I misread. That is a solution for a stripped lug. As far as the stripped stud, if its not actually stripped and just pushed out the back of the hub, just pull on the wheel a little and get it back stuck enough to start turning it with a socket. Otherwise, get a dremel.

so you're saying that i should take off the other lugs and try to pull it back into place where i can just try and take off the stripped lug nut?

thanks

Yeah this happened to me last winter. Using a dremel I cut across the top of the nut. Then used a narrow chisel to go down the side of the nut. After an hour of cursing I finally got the nut to uncatch from the thread.
