Sedan Axis Hiro Wheels

After digging through the archives I found two sedans running 19" Axis Hiros, one of those using the 19X8.5 w/ 35 offset all the way around on 245's. He also had the car lowered with Eibach, and he reported no rubbing. On paper that sounds like a tight fit, but he got away with it.

I'm wondering if I can get away with the same setup without the Eibachs (The eibachs should help tuck the tires in because of the negative camber. I was thinking of going with the H-Tech because I don't want camber issues). With all of the posts I've read I would be very wear of trying a 35mm offset on the front and rear, but love the wheels and would get them if it's doable. Does anybody have any experience with a 35mm offset wheel or similar on the front or rear of their sedan?

Here is a pic of the car I talked about. The wheels don't seem to jut out in excess. Hope he doesn't mind

A lot of work was put into this chart by THX723 over on the G-Owners site,
hope he doesn't mind me posting this.
(Moderators - if inappropriate please remove)

I used this info extensively when planning my setup.
I'm on Eibachs as well (for now).
I'm also going 8.5" & 245s, but on 18"
I'm going +42 on my wheels.

From the chart it looks like +35 would be pretty tight,
but like you said, others have done it.

He should've also included the tire width... you're not running on rims, right?

To be more specific, he had 245/40/19's on all 4. I would go with the like, or even a lesser width.

So is anyone running a wheel with an offset less than 38--like a 35--in the front or rear? It doesn't matter if it's a 17-20".

Well their are the measurements done by Enkei were they actually installed a set of rims on the car and took clearance measurements. They established that a 9" wide wheel with 38mm offset and a 245/45-18 tire comes to within 2mm of the rear fender lip. Meaning that if you work from that point, a 8.5" wide rim with 35mm offset would be 5mm away from the fender lip. Of course this means anything past 255/40 would rub

I do not remember what Enkei got from front clearance. But since they used a 225 wide tire it doesn't hold a lot of value. Since we know that 8.5" rims clear just fine in the front with a 38mm offset and 245 wide tires, I wouldn't think 3 mm would be a deal killer.

That's my car you guys are looking at. I have some closer pics of the fender and tires at this website: http://www.mainstreamracing.com/gallery/SimiG35

I was really skeptical about fitment after reading messages on the board and seeing Clint's chart, but Axis recommended 35+ all around without even considering if my car was lowered or not. The guy who sold me the wheels guaranteed the fitment and he was right.

To this day, I have no rubbing or fitment issues. For the next tire change, I am thinking of going 225/40R19's since the 245's are a little bit larger than the stock diameter. I'd rather go slightly smaller to increase acceleration times.

After reading EVERY single post in tires and wheels, and reading about the people running coupe 18's with an offset of 30, I think the Axis should work without issues. If their are people who can run a 245 tire on the coupe rim with some having issues and some not, the Axis should be safe.

To be conservative I'm going to get a 235/45/18 tire just in case. This also matches the stock total wheel+tire diameter size perfectly.

Thanks for the input all. Now, does anyone know of a place to get the wheels from? Also, Simi, did you relocate your TPS?

Thanks.

Thanks.
I'm sure that a lot of peeps would use 235s as well, if only there were more choices out there.

I got my wheels from a shop in OC called Serenty Sound. The owner is a friend of mine. As for the TPS, I have an 03.5, so didn't have to worry about that.

As for the tire size, I think 18's are a little too small for my taste. I wanted to go 20's, but they don't make tires that are closer to the original stock diameter. So I went with the largest rim that I can without making the car look like it is offroading.

I want 19's but I'm slightly concerned with bent rims and a slightly rougher ride. Have either of these issues plagued you? More expensive tires is also a minus.

What tires are you using on the 19's? Thanks.

I think 245/40's provide plenty of meat. I've hit a few pot holes and so far so good...

I chose 19's over 20's for the ride factor as well...I had 225/40's on my old BMW, and the ride was tolerable.

The only downside to 19's is the fact that tires are so damn expensive. I think the cheapest set is about $220 each. 18's are definitely cheaper and 20's are slightly less.

In the end, I ended up with Hankook Ventus tires. Not the greatest...kind of loud as well. However, the load rating was much higher than stock and tread life is supposedly good.
