I'm replacing the OEM GY RS-A's on an '05 X.

First question is my GY's have a good bit more wear on the insides than the outsides. All the tire shops I've visited suggest I need alignment. I'm suspicious of that because the car tracks straight as an arrow and all four tires are worn exactly the same, completely even except for the increased inside wear. Is this normal due to camber?

Second, I can't decide on which tire. I've been partial to Michelins in the past but I don't understand the difference between Michelin Primacy MXV4 vs MXM4 vs Energy MXV4 S8. Else looking at the Conti DWS.

Thought these might be a bit soft for my taste, would going to the 235/50 firm them up just a bit? Can't decide what to buy. I don't see many Michelins going on G35's.

I'm a spirited but not aggressive driver. The RS-A's had way too firm a ride for such little grip. Hate to ask for everything but I'd like a slightly more forgiving ride and more grip without losing the quick response feel of the RS-A's.

Also, the DWS is one of the most requested tires we sell with our wheels and I think that they're a great tire overall. I haven't really had too much experience with the other Michelins you were considering.

 

You need to check bushing wear before you put new tires on. While our cars are known for "unusual tire wear" an alignment won't fix your problem.

Usually the bushings wear equally, if you will, so the car drives straight but the bushing have way too much compliance. Usually offenders are compression rod bushings and transverse link bushings on the K member (aka lower front control arm).

Good luck with tire choice, I feel this is a very personal decision since people value different things when it comes to tires.

If there is any play in the suspension it will cause pre mature wear, the same way blown struts will cause increased camber wear.

Don't be afraid of the michelins just because you don't see them on Gs very often. They are great tires and easily my #1. They just aren't so easy on the wallet!
