will 245/35 & 285/35 cause problems with vdc

i already have the 285s and im keeping them but i found a stupid cheap set of 245s and want to get them. but i keep hearing that they need you to be close in height. is it too far apart? one guy told me hes running the same tire size and has no problems.

The difference that you are talking about is width. Not height.

For example, 225 means that the tire measures 225 millimeters across, from the widest part of the outer sidewall to the widest part of the inner sidewall. The measurement is taken when the tire is mounted on a wheel of a particular size

Now you will come into issues if you put different sidewall sizes. So, in your case:

If you put;

245/35/R19 on the Rear Driver and

245/45/R19 on the Rear Passenger

The Driver side is going to be turning faster then the Passenger and the VDC is going to think that the wheel is spinning and will engage.

The end result will be the VDC always being engaged

Actually you are incorrect. Yes you are right about the height difference between the 2 tires (even though those are not the tires ran)

Come to find out when i bought the car from the dealer it had 2 different size tirrs on the front. Not sure on size but tgey did not match height wise.

The 245s and 285s get along fine and do not cause the vdc to engage

Where are you putting them? if you have the 245/35 on the front and 285/35 out back there won't be any problem. but if say you plan on running a right rear 285/35 and a left rear 245/35 then you will have a problem, but that is dumb and I honestly can't believe anybody would try that. as said above the 245 and 285 refer to the overall width of the tread of the tire and the 35 refers to the sidewall profile.

The 35 doesn't refer to the total size of the sidewall but rather refers to the ratio of the sidewall to the tread with. for the 245/35 the sidewall height is 35% of 245mm which is 85.75mm and for the 285/35 tire the side wall is 99.75mm making the 285/35 having a 14mm larger sidewall or a little more than half an inch.

Ah ok, Im assuming your talking about running the 245's up front and the 285's in the rear? Well, yea that wouldnt affect anything in the slightest. My bad..

For some reason I thought that you were talkin about two different sizes in the rear.

I'm running 245/35s (F) & 275/35s (R) without issues, so you won't either!

We've found the 245/35-19 and 275/35-19 works w/out issues. 285/35-19 should be used with a 255/35-19 up front to keep VDC happy.

I remember reading that you should not exceed 5% change in Diameter from stock or then the VDC will give you issues.

Would 225/35/19 Front, 275/35/19 Rear combo, work with no issues as well ?

Did you notice any change in performance by going with the 285 on the rears? from what i've read, up the a certain point beyond stock size, handling will improve very slightly while acceleration decreases very slightly. Can anyone confirm?

BTW can you post a side view pic of the 285 on the stock 19" Rays? im about to buy new tires for the rear and was wondering if there would be too much bulge on the sidewalls. Thx

I probably would go wider in the front.

That combo is a bit off. The fronts seem short to start and the 275's are much wider than what you should match with a 225. Not the best combo.
