Damaged tire question
Damaged tire question
Hey everyone,
So on Saturday 1/11/14 I missed driving the G35 so I ended up taking it out for a spin, anyway because of all the snow/freezing temps here in north NJ there has been ALOT of potholes and I hit one that slashed the side-wall of my passenger side tire. I didn't know it had actually done so until I got out of the car and heard the air leak. Luckily I found out that my county will reimburse me for my damage.
My question is, Since I have a staggered set-up will only getting that one tire replaced affect the steering/handling some how? The tire on the driver side has about 60%-65% Thread left
Thank you,
-Alex

A quality tire shop can machine the new tire down (it sucks you lose all those miles) to match the other one, but this marks a good chance to buy a second tire to just replace your drivers front. What is the milage on the tires?
When I say tire shop, people typically think of a Bob Sumeral tire or Goodyear. These places have the equipment to do just about anything. See above about tire shaving (shaving off tread).

if the other tire is on its way out (op said 60% left @ 20-30% left tires needs to be replaced legally ) and its only temp I say why not buy a used tire. otherwise jus spend the money and replace both
I had an air bubble in the sidewall of a tire. If you buy a tire tread gauge for like 3 bucks you can take measurements and a place like TireRack can shave them down. Luckily, the tread on my tires were pretty close, so I didn't need the tire shaved.
But, I'd save up for two new front tires if I were you, since I noticed you said it's between 60-65%. That's to much of a waste on a brand new tire in my opinion.
