Why do my aftermarket wheels have 2 valve stems?
Just got a set of new wheels put on. And while I was cleaning them I noticed that there are 2 valve stems.. One of course on the outside, and one and the inside of the wheel. Can someone explain what the other valve stem is for?
On some racing wheels, they use two valve stems so you can inflate/deflate the tire while a pressure gauge is connected to the second valve stem. So it could be for that.
yea multiple piece wheels often do. However I saw a set of one piece wheels yesterday that were new on display at a shop. They had a sticker indicating that the one that faces to the inside edge is for use with OEM tire pressure monitoring sensors. Basically the geometry of the wheel didn't allow a TPMS to fit in the normal location so they stuck that one out the backside to allow for pressure monitoring and you use a regular valve stem to inflate the tire in the normal location. The sticker just said that if you don't have TPMS to just install a second valve stem in that location. So it could just be that.
The Enkei NT03 has 2 valve stems, and as mentioned above, its so you can measure the pressure with a gauge while you fill it up (track wheels), or just inflate/deflate them quicker using both valves at the same time.
When I had the NT03s on my car that was the #1 question anyone ever had about it, haha
