Wide tires causing terrifying clunk??
Wide tires causing terrifying clunk??
Hi new on here so please move if wrong forum.
2011 G37 Convertible auto 7 spd. Stock.
Base brakes.
About 8 months ago I changed out OEM Wheels and tires to Aftermarket
Wheels: 19 x 8.5
Offset: 35
Tires: P Zero 255/40/19
All 4 corners.
OEM:WHEELS: 19 X 8.5 Offset 42
Tires: Rear: 225/45/19
Front: 225/40/19
Did research on this site and read that this set up is fine fitment wise.
About 2 months ago when sharply turning either way 7/8ths to full turn
I will get enormous continuous clunking sound in front end (clunk clunk clunk). I can feel it in the steering wheel it's that forceful.
Took it to a shop and they said suspension was okay.
But tires were fighting themselves??
Another shop said tires were skipping traction??
I couldn't find any rub marks on either tire nor could I feel any tight areas around tires. I am a semi car guy and have never ever felt a clunk like this nor have I heard it before. I've had spring failure, strut mount problems and this isn't the same sound. I'm at a loss.
Can anyone chime in with thoughts/opinions all appreciated.
Thx,
Daryl

No way that's normal.
If it's an AWD model I would suspect a binding up CV axle.
If it's a RWD model I would suspect a worn ball joint or tie rod end.
You'll probably have better luck over at MYG37.COM this site is 99% G35.
