How soon should I get new rotors?

I've heard that the rotors for the G35 and 350Z are complete poo-poo. I seen for myself when I started hearing squeeking in my driver's side front wheel. I took it to the dealer when I got my side skirt fixed and they said everything was okay. However, when me and my buddy checked them, we noticed the pads are starting to wear down pretty fast and that the rotors had a lot of grooves in them. I've also heard that the rotors only last 20,000 miles and after that they to need to get machined or replaced. I'm looking at getting some slotted rotors, but how long should I wait (don't got the cash right now)?

its not they are junk its just that they are a soft metal. ive seen at work a 350 need rotors and pads on nonbrembo brakes because the pads are worn out which is ok but the rotors need to be replaced because they were below spec. thickness wise. im assuming its the same for g35 without brembos. groves are ok as long as the pads are ok and the rotor is no below spec everyone thinks groves are bad for rotors they are not it just more surface for the pads to grab. would u like a perfectly flat rotor of lets say 2 inches of surface that the pad can touch or 2.1inches with groves and slight ridges. more surface means better braking.

on my car just went over 18000 today and u can see some very slight groves and a lip at the edge of how thick the rotor was when it was new and how much has worn away. still have about 5mm or pad left so i dont know i might need rotors when i need pads also. i have the brembos so ill probably go with aftermarket since oem brembo are like 300 each even at my cost. i work at regal nissan so even with the discount i still might go aftermarket for some sloted ones.

Agree with dirty. Though I had some squeeking, it has gone away. I have the brembo breaks and I have 28K on my car. Now I'm no mechanic, but according to the dealer I still have a way to go before I have to replace them.

Looking at the feelers, they are no way close touching the disc break. When I do need new brake, I will definately get some slotted rotors, just for looks and cost.

Thanks for the input. The same guy who helped me install my exhaust said that the we can just get the stock rotors resurfaced for now, and they should be good for a while, thus giving me some time to put some pennies away for the slotted rotors.
