How do the '05 brakes compare to the older Brembo's?

Anyone done some sort of comparison yet? I heard the '05 brakes were upgraded and were supposed to be up to par w/ the Brembo's, but I find that hard to believe.

Are they as resistant to brake fade?

Stopping distance for the 05s is pretty much on par with the Brembos but the Brembos are more resistant to brake fade.

the 05 rotors are tiny compared to the 04's with Brembos'... so if you run
19's the gap inside the rim gets pretty big.

the OEM Brembo's that come on G's, Z's, STi's, etc. are no where near the kind of performance i would expect from a company like Brembo, but they perform much better then the stock non-brembo nissan/infiniti brakes.

have the '05 brakes been upgraded or changed in any way from the previous non brembo brakes?

The '05s have bigger rotors and calipers to match. I think I read somewhere that they got 2 pistons in the front as well but don't quote me on that. Can somone verify or deny that?

'05 Sedan and Coupes
Front: 12.6-inch X 1.1-inch power-assisted
Rear: 12.1-inch X .63-inch power-assisted vented disc

'04 Sedans
Front: 11.7-inch X 0.9-inch power-assisted vented disc
Rear: 11.5-inch X 0.6-inch power-assisted vented disc

'04 Non-Brembo Coupes
Front: 11.65-inch x 0.94-inch power-assisted vented disc
Rear: 11.5-inch x 0.63-inch power-assisted vented disc

Brembo® brakes
Front: 12.76-inch x 1.18-inch power-assisted - 4 pistons
Rear: 13.07-inch x 0.87-inch power-assisted - 2 pistons

The fronts are pretty much the same with the '05 rotors but the rears are quite bigger in comparison.

If you don't plan to take your car out to the track, stock 05 brakes are more than enough. But you don't get those cool looking gold calipers

Can I ask how do you know this? I have yet to see a review of the 05 G35 coupe or any performance numbers.

One thing is certain though, the Brembos look 100,000x better than stock ones!

I'll take the 19" 20lb. forged rims made by Rays Engineering(makers of Volks) over the Brembos anyday.

I have 30k on my original brembos. I think they resist fade pretty well considering I have three Auto-X events (fast courses) on them. Only recently have I begun to notice a decrease in brake feel.

What's your basis for saying the performance is not what you would expect? Have you experienced serious fade with them? I have yet to, and find the feel of them to be vastly superior to any system I've ever had (RX-7, 300ZX, etc.).

are you talking about track days or daily driving? i've read a lot of reviews on the Z forum saying they just don't cut it at the track. i have no track experience w/ those brakes though.

I'm talking primarily about daily driving, with some hard usage. But, as per the post above, and from what I have read elsewhere, they hold up well in autocross and pretty well in light track days.

You have to understand, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Superior track performance comes at the expense of street characteristics. These cars are primarily driven on the street, so the braking system is designed to handle heavy street demands. Very few braking systems on production cars can handle being put on the track for anything more than a few hot laps (certainly not at this price range). Sure, putting on high-temp pads, different rotors, racing brake fluid in the system, etc. will result in better thermal capability for the track, but will result in poorer cold braking on the street, lots of noise, much more maintenance (more frequent fluid changes) and greater cost. So, its a tradeoff. You can surely achieve trackable performance with some relatively inexpensive changes like different pads and fluid, but it comes at a price on the street. Realize, guys who seriously track their daily-driven cars switch pads and rotors for track days.

I think the Brembos do exactly what they're supposed to do, which is handle much increased demand on the street and in light track usage, and then when you want to get serious, you can make some light mods and get much improved thermal handling.

Have you experienced fade on the street?
