Re: Got 19's wheels?
kkh,
Your friends Z looks great! I have a white G35s, but haven't dropped the bills on wheels yet.
Your selection of 245/35/20 tires should have about an overall diameter of 26.7", while the stock 215/55/17 tires have about 26.3" the .4" (almost 1/2") difference may be a problem. I've heard we should keep them to about 1% or .25" (1/4") difference. The biggest problem is the suspension. Go out and run your hand over the top of your front tire... You'll find that the end of a bolt sits precariously close to the tire. I think this one piece will be the determining factor for maximum wheel/tire height when using the stock suspension. Lowering the car won't change the positioning of this bolt, but you will probably have to worry about rubbing the fenders,,,
Good luck, and post pics!

Do you think I'm gonna have any issues with 245/35/20's all the way around? Rubbing? etc. My salesman says he's actually going with 20's on the front and 21 on the rear on his. And he's seen 245/35/20's all the way around and it looks perfect and the place where I bought my rims from agrees. What do you think? I'm sure you've looked into this more than I have. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated. I also had a choice to trade in my stock and put out an additional 6bills for the very nice looking factory 18's also. Probably still have the choice, if I'm willing to eat the 10% restocking fee.

Congrats on making a good choice with your new wheels!! I have 245/35/20's on a 20x8.5 wheel with 38mm offset and they fit perfectly! All that stuff about "the nut above the wheel" is garbage. They are 1/2 in. taller than stock, so that makes it 1/4 in. closer to the nut (you figure the wheel is 1/4in. taller from the hub center to the tread face). I don't have any "rubbing the fender" problems either. It kills me that people see "20 in. wheel" and automatically assume it's some big huge wheel or that they look out of proportion on the car. You've seen it yourself, 19's look small on these cars because the wheel wells are huge! In fact, everybody thinks my wheels are 18's when they first see them. I went back to the dealership to ask about some rubber floor mats, and the whole damn dealership came outside to look at my car with nothing but compliments! Rest easy, they'll look great, and be sure to post some pictures. By the way, my car is in the Rides section.

Re: Got 19's wheels?
Glad to hear you had no problems with the nut cuz it is pretty close to my 17" tire from the factory... I was worried cuz I'm looking at wheels and tires for when I wear the rubber of the factory treads.
I'm curious, what does the extra 1/2" do to your speedometer/odometer? Did you notice any difference in the ABS or VDC systems?
Oh, if the diameter increased by 1/2" doesn't the circumference increase over 1.5"???

Re: Got 19's wheels?
OMG!! Your car is MONEY!! If you get the TIEN's when they come out, I will give you mad respect for your mods. Only thing i can complain about those rims would be the outter rim (ring), since the spokes don't extend all the way to the edge they look like they are 18's IMO. VERY NICE non the less and those wheels must have costed you a fortune all on its own. DAYAM!! =)

The .5in. height difference is negligible. Its the difference between having 40lbs. of pressure in your stock tires vs. 18 lbs. I've driven my car to work a total of 3 times (51 miles one way!) and when I put my new wheels on that distance dropped 3/10s of a mile. The speedometer in any car (that hasn't been calibrated) isn't all that accurate to begin with, but I haven't been able to discern any change. Besides, I would rather put wheels on my car that were a little, (and I do mean little, no 22's!) larger on my car than put 18s or 19s that 1.Are smaller, so they make your odometer record MORE miles than you have acually driven.
2. Are smaller, so they make you have to spend more time & money lowering it.
3. Are smaller, and in my opinion, just don't look as impressive!
The ABS/VDC system works by monitoring any speed difference between wheels on the same axle , so neither system is affected at all, since all my wheels are the same size.

Re: Got 19's wheels?
I definitely agree with Gaklid, why the heck would you get 19's and then lower your car, possibly voiding your 3 yr warranty? That would make no sense. Especially when your 19's look like 17's. The more I look at my car, I'm noticing that the wheel well really engulfs the tires. In this situation, IMO its better to go with 20's and not have to drop the car. If you drop your car, yeah your might take corners tighter, but you gonna feel every single bump worst....... and how often are you really taking corners fast compared to you just driving normal? Just my opinion.......

Re: Got 19's wheels?
Those 19's look great - I am considering getting the Volk Challenge - I have 3 questions.
1. How big of a difference did the 35series make in ride?
2. What offset would I need for the 19's out of these options
Front - 19 x 8.5 5 114.3 +25, +35, +40, +45
Rear - 19 x 9.5 5 114.3 +23, +38, +48, +53
3. Do you feel like the difference between 19's to 18s was worth the extra $?

Re: Got 19's wheels?
getting 19s or higher would make the need of lowering the car even higher.
yes the bigger wheel will fill more of the whell well, but on the other side of that, it also raises the car by that much as well.
Besides, lots and lotsa of people lower the car without every having to worry about warranty issues (unless you do a 3" drop).
