so, you think to get 8.5" +38 will be better for lowered sedan owner?
caz my car is pretty low. about half finger gap for the stock 17s.
what size of the tires you use on your wheels?

245/35/19 front 275/30/19 rear

you can fit a 9.5" +38 in the back but expect to cut your fenders.

8.5" front and back will clear no problem (even with good camber specs I'd imagine)

8.5" with a +38 offset is perfect for the sedan. Go with 245/40/19 tires. They are the closest to the overall diameter of stock 17's.

Did you buy that offset knowing they wouldn't clear? I could see if you didn't bother to do any reaseach and that's the price you paid, but NOT on purpose, I dunno.

45mm on 9.5" rims remains the recommened standard minimum rear sedan offset for running 275's and not needing to mess with the fender lips.

I dont mind cutting the fenders. I own my car. I did A LOT of research and knew the +38 9.5" would be the most aggressive I could possibly go in the back. Other guys are running it with a 275 and clearing NO PROBLEM but they're running more negative camber than me.

It BARELY rubs... its not even really a problem. I'm just cutting my fenders for peace of mind...

I wasn't thinking about protecting lease’s, frankly I own my car outright. I'm thinking in terms of deeply respecting the car and not talking about a setup in blasé terms.

Other sedan guys running 275's aren't rubbing because they're not running a offset as low as you. The reasearch you say you did would have turned up two instance's of 42mm offset's on 9.5" with 275's known to have a rubbing issue. Here's one of them.

GurgenPB's comment about his 42mm 9.5" 275 tire setup

The front is ok, but I will still be dropping in a 2-3mm spacer (so the ideal offset in the 8.5 is probably +38 or so). The rear WILL rub if I have enough people in it. So I will be setting the camber much more aggressively and shaving the fender lips to make them fit.
{in a latter post he mention's that he set the rear camber at -2.25}

In addition, further research would have turned up Enkei's own clearance research done to a G35 sedan they measured for fitment (1-817-490-5600), 38mm offset 9" wide rim with a 245/45-18 tire saw fender lip to tire clearance at 2mm, your setup moves 6mm closer to the fender lips or 4mm over them, http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html not accounting for how much wider a 275 tire is vs the 245 Enkei used to measure.

like i said... I was expecting to cut my fenders. I think it's funny that you're questioning my research and "respect" for my car. I knew exactly what I was doing.

Here is the exact same setup on a silver sedan with no rubbing problems... (no camber kit however)

thank you have a nice day

I want Tein Basics so I can fix the stance and avoid rubbing issues when I have to carry a lot of band gear... or 4 girls in the back seat.
sounds like you put them on backwards.

What you could not know since you were not a member at that time and the board's search engine can't go back that far is that he did report rubbing when he first got the setup and that he said the rear offset was 42mm or 43mm, not the 38mm I see he mention's most recently. He has 3000 some post's but you cannot see more then 500 of them.

We see people claim not to rub on extream setup's all the time than come back latter on and admit they do while cornering or carrying passengers. I understand, we are drawn to gloss the good and not talk about the bad it's not as exciting to talk about and you often get drawn into having to explain yourself in painfull detail. But, they ask the question's at that point because they don't want to make the same mistake or go down the same path.

One thing I have to point out, you and iLLg35 are both running a rear tire size that is quite a bit shorter then oem, this does help improve tire to lip clearances, then if someone was running closer to oem tire heights. Also, different tire's have different width's and profile's, picking a different tire may see the same setup worse off.

thats exactly what I said... but unfortunatly that is not the case

I went to get my fenders cut today. I had an appointment set at noon. I called at 10:30am and asked if I could come in early - they said okay. When I got there they told me the fender cutting guy was out of the area and couldn't do it today... "come back in the morning." I drove from Redondo Beach to Baldwin Park. So they rolled it slightly for free... no more rubbing! They did a great job. Those rolling tools are pretty nifty.

I'm pileing 4 people in my back seat tonight for the ultimate test

I'll post the results
