Wheel paint/clearcoat wearing away

Hey Everyone

As the title says, my wheels have all of a sudden taken a turn for the worse, or at least I have just noticed it. They are the 2003 Sedan 6 -spoke. I have always (or I thought) been careful to clean them with something that is "safe for all wheels" etc. etc.

I have recently noticed a "pitted" or rough looking spots on the rims, they do a great job at collecting brake dust that I can't get out and are starting to look like garbage. I have stopped using the wheel cleaner, but the damage is done and I am trying to either fix it or buy a new set, maybe make the jump to 18's. Another question - a guy I work with just bought a new 2004 coupe with the 7-spokes and would consider selling them to me - are those wheels the same size all around (with the difference in the front and back being the tire size) or are the back wheels sized differently from the front (go easy on me on that one, I have a feeling the wheels are the same all around with different tire sizes, but my bozo infiniti parts rep told me he thinks they are bigger in the back).

Has anyone else run into this? I can only blame myself for using what turned out to be a harsh wheel cleaner (trying to keep the wheels looking good) - I searched and found a few posts that talked about getting the wheels professionally refinished, another guy did it with a wire brush and repainted them, which sounds like it could be tough/impossible without a second car.

Any help is appreciated - thanks.
Mike

try getting it warantied first... it's worth a shot. Depending on the dealership, they may or may not warranty it. at our dealership, a car came in for the same problem. They used a harshe wheel cleaner to clean the wheels, but my service manager warrantied them so the customer would be happy.

worth a shot, whats the worst that can happen? they say no?

try it...

Ask how much the repaint is and see if its better to get them off ebay... why not upgrade wheels anyway?
