Re: New wheels fitments (ADR M-Sports)

Trust me, you're not telling me anything I don't already know, in regards to weight being the enemy of speed on a road course or drag strip. My point is these cars spend the vast majority of their time doing everything else aside from racing in a controlled enviroment, so why let that be the determining factor when it comes to modifying the car? Even with heavier wheels, my car performs much better than it did with the stock wheels, because of the more aggressive tire compound and wider, lower profile. It's ironic that nobody has anything to say about additional weight or supposed hindered performance when somebody puts two 10" woofers in a MDF enclosure in their trunk, or 4 metal floormats(!) in the car, or guys are walking around carrying an extra 25 lbs. of gut....It just seems to me that although lightweight wheels have long been know to help performance, the claimed benefit is now exaggerated, like cold air intakes, grounding kits, colored spark plug wires, bleacher-like spoilers, Briggs & Stratton exhaust pipes, etc...

Has anyone else noticed how shockingly similar to the BBS RS-GT these wheels are?

Jack,
While the point you make about enjoyment is valid, the idea of lighter better is only partially valid, and folks should make an informed decision, because there are some compromises/sacrifices to be made that can very well affect enjoyment. As some others have rightly noted elsewhere in these forums, rotational mass is dependent not only upon "how much", but also "where". Every time folks add an inch of diameter to their wheel, apples to apples, they're losing straight line (up or down) performance. Swing a 5 lb axe with a 20" handle, then do the same with a 30" handle (same 5 lb head). The shorter handle takes a lot less effort to swing. Take a base coupe AT with 17s for a rip back to back against one with the performance pack (AT+18s). I own the latter, and tested the former, back to back. Bad news- the base coupe was noticeable quicker, despite being shod with inferior (all-season, no offense to Bridgestone, Pole Position is a great tire) and smaller tires. Why did I get the Canuck Performance pack then? Cooler interior, limited slip, and those sweet 18s shod with Michelin rubber. But I knew there was a compromise.
So for those contemplating 19s and 20s, be sure you realize you're doing it for looks, and will likely suffer a bit on acceleration/ deceleration unless they're really light and/or the bulk of the mass is located near the hub. 18s are comparatively less expensive. Save your wheel money, especially save your tire money, and put on some 18s with killer looks.

The difference being quality and price. For the premium quality (and BBS name), you've got to pay almost $900 per rim, for a good looking ADR M-sport...maybe $325 ea.

Re: New wheels fitments (ADR M-Sports)

Wow I never knew those were that heavy!! I just got 19x8.5 ADR M-Classics for my sedan and they weigh in at 22lbs per rim, 4 lbs. lighter than my stock 17's!! I like both but these caught my eye .. Can't wait to get them on, now I just need to buy tires soon haha. Should I go 255/35or40/-19 or 245/35or40-19's? I keep seeing 40's and they look so similar, I just dont know if the 35's will look even more stupid because I cant put springs in yet, will it make a big difference in looks and tread life? Thanks a lot. Heres a few pic's
