Owners of Tein Flex's with EDFC - Question

To those of you G'ers that have the FLEX's w/ EDFC, I have a question:

I have the FLEX's w/ EDFC and I can save settings into P-1, P-2 or P-3 and alternate between them when driving, however, when I turn the car off the EDFC also turns off, and the memory settings that I previously configured are no longer saved. I have to reset the dampening force each time I restart my G.

So, the questions I have are:
1) Does your EDFC unit store the dampening settings that you set into P-1, P-2 or P-3 memory options? Even after you restart the car?

2) Does your EDFC stay on after the car is turned off? Should the EDFC stay on when the car is off?

Are other EDFC users encountering these symptoms or issues?

Thanks!

The EDFC is supposed to turn off when you turn the car off. However, once you start the car again, the EDFC should turn on by itself, without having you hold the power button down to start it manually.

Secondly, the EDFC is supposed to save your preset settings, even after you shut the car off.

I think your problem is in the wiring, whoever wired your EDFC probably did not wire the constant 12v wire to a constant source, rather they wired it to a switched ignition/ACC source.

My question for you is, do you have to manually power up the EDFC everytime you start the car?

Yeah, I have to manaully (holding power button) power on the EDFC when I start the car.

I figured that the EDFC was supposed to start up when the car starts, but I had nothing to compare to, but with your response, now I do..

Im still curious about the not saving of settings. Even when the car is on (running), and I setup P-1 memory setting, and save (by holding button for 2+ seconds), and when I turn off the EDFC (while car is still on) and turn the unit back on, the settings are not saved. hmm?

thats because the only wire powering it is the switched power. if you hook up both the constant and the switched power it will stay there. i dont think both power wires are there. when you manually power it down it is supposed to switch to the constant power for memory.

Yup, then my original diagnosis is correct. The constant power wire is hooked up to an ignition source, rather than a constant power source. Take it back to whatever monkies you had install it and tell them they did it wrong.

Thank you for your responses so far... I really appreciate them..

Well, I finally started to look into this issue myself, as a result of another side project (swapping out the B&M SS for a Rouge Eng. SS). I was able to see where they had connected my EDFC. Apparently they had connected the EDFC power to the wiring that leads to the lighter & hazards. The wiring is connected as follows:

Green (EDFC) => Red/Green wire
Yellow (EDFC) => Red/Black wire
Black (EDFC) => ground
Red (EDFC) => Red wire elsewhere

(I should of taken a picture)

I can move these wire connectors to a different location, but not exactly sure where the best location. I would prefer to splice into actual wires, not just connect these to the fuses within the driver side fuse box (It's a cleaner install).

Im sure the only issue I need to address is the Yellow wire for the EDFC. Where it is not currently getting the always on connection.

Any suggestions on where I should draw the power from?

Thanks,

In regards to your PM, I cannot tell you which wires I used to splice into as I did not write it down. I test my wires before wiring, I don't just go off diagrams or anything.

Honestly, take it back to whoever installed it the first time, its their error, its their fault, they should fix it for free. I can go over the wiring for you test it all and hook it up correctly, but I'd have to charge you for it. I don't know what they are off the top of my head, I have to take it apart and test it.

it's cool.. I figured it out already.. The person who installed it had the two Red & Yellow wires switched. Red wire was connected to the "always on" power while the Yella wire, was connected to a Red/Black wire (guessing ignition power). The Green (EDFC) wire is still connected to a Red/Green wire.

I tested the each wire and I was able to switch them easily.

I just simply asked, cause I was unfamiliar with the wiring. Everything is working as it should.
  • When sitting in the car with the key out, the EDFC display is off.
  • When I turn the car on/start the car, the EDFC display powers up automatically. And the settings I had saved previously are still saved.

Thank you again for everybody's input and feedback.

dood.. that's a great shop, the people are cool and they are very knowledgable with everything else (except the electrical) , prices are very competitive. The other aspects of the Flex's were installed flawlessly.

Plus they're the only shop that I trust so far in the Irvine area (I don't trust others). I would love to go to Street Image or some of the other shops mentioned, but the drive is a little out ways..

Thanks again!

A shop that makes a mistake like that is no shop I would trust. You're lucky it was only an EDFC or something else. A crossed wire on a SAFC or EMS or something else = blown motor. Mixing up wires shows carelessness that they did not time to verify the connections before the install. And they did not test to verify that the unit functioned properly after the install was completed.

Maybe some people can over look these things, I cannot. If you bring your car to a shop to have it worked on, why should you have to work on it yourself when you go home to fix something you already paid to have done? I guess I just have a higher standard or quality/workmanship. Service is everything.

Oh, and just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for everything, parts and install?

You can just PM it to me if you don't wanna post it.
