Do some research. I would like to think that the newer version of a tire would be better than the older version. From what I read, the only complaint the T1-S owners had was the soft sidewall. The new T1-R's are supposed to have stiffer sidewalls. Also, on Toyo's website I noticed they have a diagram of how the tire was exposed to heat...the T1-S tires wore quicker on the outsides of the tires compared to the new T1-R's that have a more even wear.
