anyone runinng pilot sport PS2??
Specifically, I wanted to see if anyone is running these tires in 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 on their G.
They are supposed to be an excellent tire and still very quiet.
I popped some 19s on my G Sedan the other day. Thses were some wheels I had laying around. The tires are AVS Sports. I couldn't believe how noisy the tires were. I never heard the noise before (on a Mercedes.) On the G, the tire noise was embarrassing; I'd never take people in my car with that much tire noise.
I don't nitpick about stuff...this tire noise was bad. I assume that the Gs just have terrible insulation in the fender wells. I have noticd that when the roads are wet, I can hear all the water spraying up into the rear fender wells.
For this reason, I want to find some quiet 19s. Any help is always appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

I dont have them but I drove a BMW hard with a brand new set on.
All I can say is that SOLD me right there.
However, the main thing is the price...they are expensive tires. Tirerack has them now for $232/$278 (front/rear) but those are the 18" price. I can only imagine its even more for 19's. If you can afford them I say go for it...right now I'm looking for something a tad less expensive but still good.

If the AVS tires were used and worn in on another car, I'm sure some of the noise was due to the different mounting setup on the G.
But I have heard that those Yoko's start to wail after a few thousand miles too.

I don't have a G yet but I do have Pilot Sports on my 2 Lexus cars and I have experience with the Yoko AVS Sports. The AVS were one of the best tires I ever had. Great grip and handling. Super look. But, the tire noise drove me crazy. I swore them off ever. I think Michelin is the best tire in the world, and I've tried many over 20 years of modding. They may cost more but you'll have them much longer. In the end the cost is okay. One set I had since 12/03 and looks like another year of tread life on it. The other set since 2/04 and looks like over a year of tread left. That's long for peformance tires.
ok first off...best tire ever. quiet, long tread life, and grip is out of this world. ive had experience with so many tires, and i work in a tire shop, so i kinda have a clue. They do run kind of expensive, but worth the money in my opinion. Ive never broken them loose as hard as ive driven the car, i was scared out of my mind on the twisties, and the tires were still quiet. i love them to death. (kinda scary) however, if you cant afford the PS2's, your BEST alternative is the Kumho MX, half the price, almost as amazing grip as the PS2 nice looking tread, quiet. ah i love tires. lol
I have the PS2s and yea, they are the best tires ever engineered IMO. Michelin's performance tires usually don't have long life due to the soft sticky rubber but Michelin changed that with the new PS2s. The rubber is still as sticky as the regular PS, yet is supposed to last longer. I'm on my first set of PS2s and I just got them a few weeks ago but we'll see how the tread life is after a few months.
