I'm interested in these tires too as they're available in a 235/50/17 which is the perfect replacement for the stock 215/55/17 (that is if I don't updgrade to 18's ).

Sure hope they are a better tire than the original Wide Oval's from the late 60's!

according to the reviews on Tire Rack, they are pretty well liked. i just want to hear it from someone on these forums, who might have them on a G. i can get a pretty good deal in my area for them. less than 450.00 for a set of four. not including installation. if they are as good as they say on the Rack, that would be a hell of a deal!

I trust no Firestone tires, I don't care if they fixed their quality control issues or not. Cheap is not a good price to pay when your life is at stake.

well i bit on these tires and i will have them installed at my local infiniti dealer tomorrow afternoon. 4 tires, 488.96 total, out the door, at my local firestone dealer. basically they sold them for 150.00 a piece normally, but they had a "promotion", buy 3 and get 1 free going on right now. another 99.00 to have them mounted and road force balanced at infiniti. i figure that isn't bad if these are as good as the reviews i have been reading online.

bargain or not, be sure and get the road hazard certificates. Can save you big bucks when you drive a nail thru the sidewall.

Careful about redesigning the entire vehicle suspension by changing tire brands/sizes.

Tires make up 90% of the vehicle handling [and braking], the suspension components the rest.

Always study T-Racks "wet braking distance numbers" as a guide to tire performance.

The above is the most difficult part to get right on a tire design!

According to Tire Rack, the wet braking distance from 50-0 in feet, is:

Firestone Wide Oval-88.8
Michelin Pilot Sport-88.2
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3-87.8

I think, based on those numbers, the Firestone is competitive with two of the more respected other brands and models of tires.

I will do a review of the tires once I accumulate some real world experience.

Thanks for the feedback.

If there anything like the previous Wide-Ovals by Firestone I wouldn't put them
on my lawnmower! There are alot of choices out there and anything Firestone would
be on the bottom of my list! The guys at Tire Rack can offer you lots of choices
but I would stay away from Firestone. Even BFG's would be a better choice!

...Actually the tirerack.com guys reviewed these tires and gave them high marks. I think these are Bridgestones which are actually made in Japan.

...If you have some experience with these tires, I'd love to hear about it. If you don't... well... 'nuff said.

Fortunately they also come with a 30-day money back warranty so I feel pretty confident that I won't get royally screwed.

You guys are in luck... I work for firestone as a tech. I can tell you that the wide ovals are a damn good tire for the money. For some people they like the avons a little better. The wide ovals are the same tread design as the Bridgestone RE750 so the wideovals are like the 750's little brother. They dont perform as well but they are right up there with em. The only reason they're cheaper is because your buying a "Firestone" and not a "Bridgestone" I would def. recommend the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval. But i could be biased as i work there. Hope this helps.

I think the reason they're called "Wide Ovals" is because they balance like they're ovals

I have a set, they're just fine. Nothing to write home about but they're fine tires. Be prepared to see a LOT of weights on your rims though to get them balanced good.
