Removing Rear Bump stops

Has anyone considered removing the rear bump stops where the coil spring resides? I'm been toying with the idea of removing the stock bump stops and inserting a pair of airlift-air bags in place of them, so that they're in side of the coil spring. I'll have to take a better look at the bump stops if they're removable. it's just a means of stiffening up the rear while attaining a progressive feel from the air bags. I used to have them in my t-type and helped my times in the 1/4 mile. On the road, they behaved well, improving handling too, considering turbo regals were moving bricks.

yay? nay?
opinions welcomed.
