Why no one run 18/19" stagger?

I don't see anyone running 18" front, 19" rear stagger
like Covette & some Ferrari does, on G35.

Any reason?

I am think on running 18x8 235/45 18; 19x9, 265/35 19 Rear
on my sedan.

Will it work?

thanks

being as you have an x, i wouldn't recommend this having different size contact patches, and different overall diameters between the front and back.

On a regular VDC car that will most likely make the VDC system very unhappy. But on an AWD car that can add undue stress on the center differential. I am not sure of the type of center Diff that the Gx has, but most types of Diff's don't like constantly being run at different speeds. Viscous ones heat up and Clutch types heat up and wear rapidly. It's like putting 2 different diameter tires on opposite sides of a limited slip rear axle, the diff is ALWAYS trying to equalize the speed difference.

Would would it make the VDC unhappy? Or are you only talking about sedans? The 06 350z Track/Grand touring will come with 18" (f)/19" (r) and they do come with VDC.

Hmmmm. good question. I posted last week about wrong tire pressure causing my VDC to flip the hell out. Not sure what (if anything it would do with this stagger) but maybe they have a different/updated program on the 06 350 to accept the stagger. Who knows?

The sizes being discussed are very tight.
They're only off by 0.09% fr to rr

I saw your thread and I think you put lower profile tires in the rear correct? 255/35? I've read that if your overall rear tire diameter/circumference is smaller than up front, you're going to have VDC problems. If my numbers as correct, with your current setup your overall diametere is 26.1" up front and 26.0" in the back (stock 245/40 being 26.7"). I don't know if that didn't have anything to do with your VDC acting up. I'm far from a wheel expert haha.

The problem is with all-wheel drive vehicles. On rear wheel drive cars it is fine.

You should never stagger an AWD car.

stagger AWD G35x

I have read other AWD stagger threads in this site, it seems to conclude that as long as the front/back overall tire diameter are the same, then it's ok.
my plan:

235/45 18 =26.33" diameter front
365/35 19 =26.30 " diameter rear

The dif. is 0.03", i.e. 0.1%. (Not 1%, it's 0.1%, 10 times less than 1%)

That's hardly anything, mush less than the diameter difference a car would see normally with front/back PSI difference. Or New vs. balding tires front/back.

I would consider such set-up as exact size front & back.

How could VDC be messed up if the rolling diameters are exactly the same???

Keep the overall diameter the same and yes it would work, but you will induce understeer due to the car not being set up to counter it. Wider tires in the rear will induce understeer, but the softer spring rate in the front kinda offsets it. In other words, if your spring rate isn't staggered the wider tire would have a greater understeer effect than a car with staggered spring rates. Remember, the sport suspension isn't just tires...it's springs, shocks, sways too. On the regular G35s you can run the 245/40/18 and 275/35/19 setup with no problems. Hell, I would do it if I had to do it over again.

stagger awd g35x

I expect understeer more as wider rear
would do, regardless it's X or not.

Just didn't understand why people say it's fry up the AWD transfer case.

I had a flat & had to put one donut spare on that's barely 5" wide in the rear.
The rest of my tyres are 235/45 18, 9" wide. The diameter of the donut is 26.3" same as my other tires.

Didn't notice anyting, VDC never came on.

if you do it, and experience no problems - now, or for the next 10,000 miles, i'll be the first to back you up. if the subject comes up again, i'll reference you as the sme!!! good luck with your setup. take pics!

Hmmm, the guy I puchased them from at tirerack said they should retain close to the same overall height, I was going to go 255/40 instead of 255/35 that does make sence though. So far (after taking the pressure back to 35 instead of the 80 the FRIGGIN MORONS WHO PUT THEM ON) had in it them it has been flawless, no freaky VDC issues. I am about to replace the fronts as well, should I go 235/35 to even them out or what? as apposed to the 225/40's or am I in the same perdicament, I'm confused/retarded, thanks for the help Finiti. Obviously I'm no tire expert either
