Thumbs up My 05 Coupe Winter Tire Setup...PICS

Well, we had our first serious snowfall today. About 3 inches on the ground, and very slick. I just had my winter rims/tires installed last week (thank god). Got them at tirerack.com.

My car is a 2005 6mt coupe

My setup is as follows:
Rims - Kazera 18X8.5 all around
Front Tires - Blizzak LM-22 225/45VR18
Rear Tires - Blizzak LM-22 245/45VR18

I am VERY impressed with these tires. I think the whole setup looks fairly sweet. More importantly, I did not slip around at all! They stop on a dime. Of course, if I gun it, I can easily spin the rear wheels; but when I drive carefully, I can accelerate from first gear with no spin whatsoever. Also, excellent cornering.

My other vehicle is a Touareg which is obviously way better in the snow. However, given that this is a rearwheel drive 300hp vehicle, I feel quite safe on the roads. In fact, I witnessed several other vehicles sliding into curbs, on corners which I negotiated with ease.

Regarding the setup, I talked on the phone to the folks at tirerack about it. They seemed fairly knowledgeable, and recommended the staggered setup to avoid any issues with VDC.

That's a nice winter setup. I don't think I'd spend that much though. 17s for me.

Good to hear the Blizzaks work really well. I got them on my G for the first time and waiting for the snow to fall to try them out.

The 18's didn't cost that much more. Here in Winnipeg, I'm going to have this setup on the car from November until the end of March. I figured I'd spend a little extra so that I still like the look of the car for the 5 wintery months out of the year.

Later that night, we got another 13 inches of snow. I must confess, I drove the Touareg to work the next day (there were 4X4's stuck all over the place). Two days later though, I'm driving the G. I'm really impressed with the short stopping distance of these tires both on snow and on ice.

No more WOT though, that's for sure. Maybe I'll save on gas over the next few months...

I bought my winter set up at tires.com and 2 sales reps told me the same thing.

I'm using 17" Falken Ziex 512 tires with OEM measurements. It doesn't snow much here in STL and all-seasons tires will work fine.

what happened with your TPMS - did you have to get new sensors? I'm planning to get the same setup - however w/ Dunlop M3s. Good look by the way!

Thanks. I didn't get sensors, so the TPMS light is always on. It's actually fairly unobtrusive, and there is no alarm/chime associated with it, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I hear the Dunlops are nice tires, too...

I just put the order in for the same rims, however w/ the Dunlop M3s. He did remind me of the locating pin that I have to remove from the fr tires. Thanks for the info!

I'm getting Hankook's pretty soon, and relatively cheap 18" wheels. Looking forward to actually stopping, and getting out of an unplowed parking lot!
