20s or 19s

I have an 05 6mt coup and i really want to change the rims and tires and the only question now is if i go ahead and get the 20 inch wheels do you guys think it would slow my car down with them on. if it does slow me down how much of difference are we talking about

I just went from lightweight 19s to 20s, and I feel a difference, mostly in acceleration from a stop. Don't worry, it's not so bad that you'll be racing civics for an empty lane with 20s.

its simple 20's bend, and 19 really dont as much, not nearly as much because there is double the side wall, in the tire of nineteen. i was in the same debate as ou go for 19's andalso 20 inch tires are crazy $$$$$$$$$$.

Which 19s or 20s ?

Take into consideration where you drive and how far.......with 20s your
tires won't last all that long and destroying a rim may happen way to often.
With 19s your tires will last longer and chances of bending a rim are not as
great. Also check out some of the great cars on this site and how the
diffrent size rims will look on your Gee.

Here's a pix of a white coupe with 19" and 20" wheels.

I've ordered my 20's and should be here in 3 weeks. I don't track my car and just drive 3 miles to work and home. I'm in it for the looks since I see tons of G's in my area with 18's & 19's, and not to worried about performance.... I think the G has enough power as it is and will always be able to FI in the future.

I think you should get 19's so when I get my DUBs, my ride stand out from the rest of the G's out there... ... j/k....

It's your call & preference... if you do get 19's... I'd say to at least drop it so it fills out the wheel wells better and be sure to get a large rear lip! (^_^)

Good luck!

Here's a link to my site with tons of misc. G35 pix:

It's all about personal perference.

On my IS300 I had OEM 17's and I upgraded to aftermarket 18's, even though it's an inch bigger it still noticebly a difference.

I have OEM staggered 19's on my LSM G35 and I wanted to go aftermarket wheels, I would consider 20's, not only 20's would make a big difference also it depends on how you drive the car with 20's. People with 20's on and aren't careful they deserve to have their wheels cracked.

Point being is why get aftermarket 19's if your car came with stock 19's?

heres my points - go 20s and ur ride will accelerate slower. heavier wheel and larger diameter takes more power and force to rotate them. Go 19 and look for ones that are = in weight or close to it. I dont think there are many wheels that can beat a 20-22lb rim on the market. Its basic physics. If you are looking to just be bling, go 20 but id stick with 19s if i were you. Heavier wheels will help you put that power to the ground if ur FI =)

Actually 19" tires are more then 20's in some cases....

What we like to ask our customers when they ask us this question is how are the roads around you? What's your main reason for waiting to change rims? And, how aggressive do you drive?

If your roads suck, filled with pot holes then we recommend 19's because of the added meat on the tires, lets say this isn’t a factor, then we do to the next question, what’s your main reason? Is it primarily for aesthetic reasons... if so then 20's all the day, they look almost perfect on the G coupes, if its performance then 19's lets say its a compromise between the two, you want to maintain performance however want the head turning appeal, then we go to the next question how do you drive.. If you drive aggressively then we would point you into the direction of 19's. If spirited driving then we would say go for a forged 20" rim. Good luck with your choice and let me know if we can help you make a decision.

James

Please explain how a 245/35-19 tire has double the sidewall of a 245/35-20 tire.

Go with whatever makes you happy.

I was almost about to go with 19" but then realized that 20" would only be like $100-$200 more including tires. So I paid the extra $100-$200 for peace of mind and no regrets that may have happened with 19".

Durability difference is neglible with the increase in 1" if you have high quality wheels; ie. if the pothole is huge enough it will screw both sized rims.

One more thing, if you're going with the 2 step lip or "reverse mount" you must go 20"s as it "shrinks" the face of the wheel.
