Tire Ruined

If anyone has any experience in low profile tires I have a question for you.
My continential 225/40/19 was loosing air pressure, took it to my tire shop. They said that the rubber gromet at the valve steam was leaking, so they replaced it. They then told me that the tire was junk because running low pressure will cause the sidewall to weaken and bubble. I don't think I drove on low pressure, I noticed it was low in my driveway before driving on it. They will not put the tire back on the wheel and want $300 for a new tire. What would you guys do? The tire only has 4500 miles on it and looks perfectly fine. But i'm not an expert.
I will say that the tire shop I take my car to has always treated me well, and I want to believe that they are being honest, but I don't want to spend another 300 bucks after just buying snow tires from them.
Any advice would be great

I would expect warranty service if you have never misused it.

I would NOT expect to pay a dime. (well maybe the install cost)

That sounds possible but kind of questionable to me. I do know driving on a flat tire will likely cause damage as will driving on a very low tire for an extended time. Heat will build up on a low tireand eventually cause it to blow. If you were driving it that way for a while and having to replace the air regularly they may be right. If not they may be just trying to sell a tire. Ask them to tell you why they bothered to replace the valve in the first place if the tire was junk. It would make sense to inspect a leaking tire first if that is a common outcome of that problem. Also have them show you the "bubbles" they are talking about. If you are satisfied they are giving you the truth then go with the new tire. If not leave with your tire and get a second opinion.

I asked if it was covered under warranty, they said no because there was not a problem with the tire. The low pressure was because of the valve steam problem, which cause tire failure. I still don't think there is a problem with the tire. The sales guy tried to show me that the sidewall was weakened but I didn't see any difference between my tire and another tire he showed me.
They water tested the tire and broke the bead and put air pressure back in it, they then found the problem to be the rubber gromet in the valve stem. I just wasn't expecting to need a new tire

So the valve stem isn't a part of the tire??? Sounds like BS to me. The tire should be covered under warranty.

The valve steam is part of the wheel, or at least attached to the wheel.

I think for (1) tire of that size to be $300 is to be absurd.

You can go to TireRack and get (1) tire cheaper than that.

If I end up buying a new tire I will buy it at the tire rack it cost $224 from them plus shipping. Then I have to pay someone to mount and balance. Anyway I'm going to try and use my old tire.

I'm sorry, but they are correct, this has happened before to some of our cars, basically if the car is driven with low pressure, not saying you drove it for a long time, however they may just not know and don’t want to risk it. However if the tires are driven with low tire pressure then it puts added stress onto the sidewalls, possibly causing a blow out later... whether you take that chance is entirely up to you, however I would consider getting a new tire. Also $300 for the Conti’s is a grip yo!

I can easily get you into those tires for atleast $25 bucks cheaper pre tire.. but look around your area cuz we'd have to ship to you, and it may make it a wash.

It comes with the wheel not the tire, huh? I stand corrected.
