rim recommendations

Can someone recommend a good quality rim mfg. I have never looked for rims before so I am somewhat a novice. What do you look for in a good quality rim? What questions do you ask?

Re: rim recommendations

Just a few observations:
Forged is usually better than cast.
Light weight is nearly always better.
The more they cost, the better.
Most of the big name wheels from places like Tirerack or Discount Tire are really good. Brands like BBS, Volk, OZ, SSR, etc. would be a good place to start.
There are also a lot of mediocre and downright cheap wheels. The guy from Discount Tire that posts here should be able to give you good feedback on the best price vs. quality ratio you can get.

Re: rim recommendations

Forged wheels are better because they're lighter weight than cast wheels. Incidentally, they're more expensive, also.

More cost isn't always better. The scale generally runs cheap->good->expensive. You want something in the "good" range.

How about Fittapaldi Force rims? How are they classified?

Re: rim recommendations

I would not recommend them for the coupe since they only come as wide as 8.5" - as the other posts noted, you will most likely want to go with some type of forged wheels (preferably a Japanese brand - they just seem more fitting for the G) and make sure you use a staggered setup, 8.5 or 9" in the front and either 9.5, 10 or 10.5" in the rear (with a big lip) - at any rate, the more information you can give us about what characteristics are most important to you, the better we can help point you in the right direction - good luck, and in the end, it all boils down to what YOU like...

Re: rim recommendations

hello this is charles and it all boils down to how much money someone is willing to spend on the G ... i see alot of people giving their input on forged wheels yes everything about them is great as well as the cost ..... HRE IS THE BEST , HUB CENTRIC this means no ( centering rings ) unlike iforged or bc
now if money is and issue the axis SUPERMESH 19 inch
19x 8.5 front with 2.5 lip and 19x 9.5 with 3.5 lip work great on this car and i am speaking from EXPIRIENCE ....

Re: rim recommendations

Why do I want to get with a staggered set? How will I rotate my tires? What can I expect to spend on a Japanese set of rims with tires? Any recommendation on tires? I spoke to one tire company and he told me the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires are crap and the Goodyear Eagle GSA are crap likewise. I have no intention to racing my G35 on a track. I am hoping to get the best deal on rims and tires and stay around $1500 to $2,000. Any recommendations on mfg for both.

Re: rim recommendations

$2 gz for a set of rims w/ tires? Hmm I can sell you my stock 18s with pilot sports if you want. Or you can go with something like ADR and nitto tires

Re: rim recommendations

You want staggered rims for looks, you can still rotate left and right.

17's and 18's look too small on this car. So if you want 19's for around $2k w/ tires check out Axis Se7en MODS (mods are the three piece look with deep dish), or maybe ADR M-Sports.

Re: rim recommendations

Most performance tires are directional, and so you'd have to remount them the opposite direction on the rims to rotate left to right.

You won't increase your tire life much on performance tires anyway. They wear out fast even with a perfect alignment and even wear.

Re: rim recommendations

hello , $1500.00 - $2000.00 will not be for full flendge japanese wheels maybe taiwanese and tire selection at that price range will be very limited to brand ... for example you will not get michellin or bridgestone in stagered set up maybe if you run the same size all around will help with cost greatly and as well as helping you rotate them .. axis has a good deal for 19X8 all around with 245/ 35 / 19 this alone will set you back with toyo tire or nitto nt555 for about 2100. shipped thats the deal one of my friends got for axis in silver color ...

Re: rim recommendations

Why not go with Volk Racing or HREs? If you're willing to spend the money HRE is definitely worth it...And look how many rides are sporting Volk TE 37s...Simple, clean look...Just my 2 cents

Re: rim recommendations

check out the o.z superleggeras. i just got em for my coupe and they look off the chain. they are like a gunmetal color, and my coupe is diamond graphite so they match the color of the car. i got awesome tires too. i got the bridgestone pole positions S-03s.... 245/35/19 in front and 275/30/19 in the back. the rims are three piece so they were a bit expensive. the only thing i would do different is get a bigger profile tire next time for the back, because 30s are a little too too thin, but the car still rides sweet and looks great with these 19s on it!!

Re: rim recommendations

Nice choice with the OZs...I'm running HRE 446Rs with Nitto 555 ZRs...How are those Bridgestones? I was considering those but as a GT-R fan I went with a set-up that a lot of R33 and R34 owners are running...Call it my pathetic attempt to be a Skyline owner until I can actually get a GT-R imported...

Re: rim recommendations

Hey Eezee, can you post some pics of your coupe with the superleggeras? I would love to see how they look on the G. Thanks.
