Sumitomo Tires

Does anyone have these tires on their car? I'm wondering how they might perform for me and my use. I do not track my car, nor do I drag or street race. I may push the car every once in a while, but not very often. I live in North Carolina, so a tire with a good combo of dry/wet traction is important to me. I'm wondering about how these tires are for just normal, everyday usage. I've had a set of Pilots and a set of SO-3's (currently) but I'm having a harder time justifying the costs of those tires, particularly when you consider their relatively short tread life and how they are used. Any feedback, whether positive or negative, would be greatly appreciated.

For everyday driving, I think these would be fine. How long did the oem pilots last you?

I have Sumitomo HTRZII on my car 245/275. I have no problems with them. The guy I got them from also sold Toyo's which I was gonna get at first, he talked me into getting the Sumitomos because I wasnt gonna be Drifting and driving like a NASCAR driver. Also like you said, can you see putting Toyos or an expensive tire on your car, and if you do wanna burn out, you have to think about dollar signs as you do it. I say go with the sumitomos for everyday driving.

I got about 24K with the Pilots, and am about there now with the SO-3's. If I was still young and crazy and drove like I did when I was 24 then I maybe could see the extra expense. But now that I'm 40 and have started my own business I'd rather take that extra cash and put it back into the company. I guess I'll have to get over my tire prejudices!

For everyday driving wet braking distances are important,
You can use TireRacks tests to get an idea how tires will wet brake brand new but don't try to extrapolate out to half worn.

This is the area where lesser tires tend to fail in performance as the hardest to get right.

Most people don't understand that tires can be 10,20,even 30 foot differnt in a wet 50 mph brake test.

I had them on my Mustang and they seemed a bit soft. They did not Hook to well under high RPM launches but for everyday they were fine. The ride was suttle and forgiving. I would recomend them for street driving.
