Hey guys, what is the best way to ship a set of 18" rims with tires within the US? Where are you getting boxes that are big enough for the tires?

why don't you go to a local speed shop and get empty boxes from them i'm sure they'll give it to you since it just goes in the garbage anyways. as far as shipping i would try fed ex or UPS ground for the cheapest prices.

If they are in good condition make sure to put some foam/bubble wrap on the spokes. The paint on them is fragile and even the cardboard box will scratch them up in transit.

heavy duty cardboard box is the best. make sure you tape all the
corners of the flap.

decent way is how tirerack ships wheels and tires...but they tend to
fall apart when shipping larger, heavier sets. i've been bugging tirerack
to offer boxes for expensive wheels. tirerack uses cardboard discs on
both sides of the wheel/tire package and straps them down or tapes them.

This is exactly what I did when I sent a set of G35 Coupe 18s. I put the small bubble wrap inbetween the round cardboard disc and the painted spokes. Then used strapping tape all around to make sure the discs don't move and scuff the spokes.

Worked great.

forget about using boxes if they have the tire on them.

I took shrink wrap and wrapped the wheel first, then carboard cut round the size of the wheel on the front and back, then a layer of styrofoam and another piece of cardboard on the front to protect the painted part of the rim. Then wrap the whole thing up again real well with the shrink wrap.

i still prefer boxes.

the packaging for my SSR GT3's from tirerack failed me twice already.
each time they send me a wheel, one of them came in bare with no
packaging. Fedex was nice enough to bring the packaging with them.

i noted their sales both times....still no word yet if they're going to
offer boxes in the future. im paying $1k each for these wheel/tire
combo... i don't give a **** if i have to pay $5 extra.

btw, my SSR comps came in fine with those cardboard discs and straps...the set for my cooper-s. much smaller and much lighter.
