Cupping prevention
Cupping prevention
So I'm going to put a new set of tires on my '04 Coupe and I really want to try and avoid cupping on the fronts. I was thinking of having them rotated side to side every 8k. Do you folks think this will do the trick? Is there any danger in doing this considering the wear pattern?

That's what i'm going to do when i get new tires on my sedan. Im going to rotate them at 6,000 miles then flip/flop them at 12,000 miles but i have a sedan so it's different. But a side to side roatation would def. give you longer tread life on the coupe.

By side to side do you mean drivers to passengers or front to rear? Driver to passenger you either need nondirectional tires or you would have to remount them on the rims and front to rear you run into the issue (with the coupes) of the staggered sizing requiring different diameter sizes (or deal with potential VDC issues). If you figure it out let me know because with my '03 I have the same problems.

not front to back, we're talking side to side. You dismount both tires and make the one that was going left go right and vice versa. Then balance them and put em back on the car. Now the part of the tire that was being affected by the negative camber wear/feathering is on the outside of the tire and there is more tread on the inner edge of the tire.
