wheel and tire warranty

Yesterday I was driving my 06'MT and I got the "low tire pressure light". I pulled over and looked and none of the tires "looked" low so I checked all the pressures. Three of them were at 38 psi and the right rear was at 27.5 and upon further inspection I noticed there was a nail near the outer edge of tread. I filled the tire up to 40psi and took it to the dealer this morning. The dealer is going to replace the tire (had to order it) since they don't plug tires if the damage is near the sidewall (said they didn't want to accept the liability). The tire and wheel package warranty that cost $399 just paid for itself and since I took it back to the dealer I won't have to pay anything out of pocket and get reimbursed later. I'm going to have my right front rim's curb rash fixed, too ($150). Fellas if you didn't buy this, you might want to reconsider.

WTF? $399?? I paid $280 in 2003 and I'm covered until 2008. It's paid for itself four times over.

i've heard different stories... many that have had trouble. So i opted not to get it and save the extra $300. They said they will cover aftermarket wheels, but it has to be within the manufacturer's specs. Which means, why replace them w/ aftermarket 19's with the same width and tire specs when it already has 'em, and pretty nice ones a that.

They don't offer the sale of the road hazard coverage except at the point of sale, since they had issues w/ people buying them after the fact and then filing claims. (from what i hear...)

dont have a warranty and im glad. so far, i have almost 80000 miles on the car. one winter, i hit a pot hole and it bent the inside of the rim. got it repaired for $60. and recently a nail in the tire, cost $5 for a plug. so i guess its not worth it for me. so far. those warranties are only good if something happens. is it worth it to lay out that much money up front and hope to use it in the future? I dont know?

I paid $280 for the 5 yr. warranty on my 05 when I bought it new. With those 19" wheels and tires, I didn't want to take a chance with our New Mexico roads.

Plugged tire do NOT retain their speed rating. You will be SOL if you have a blowout and someone sues.

Are you saying that they are fixing the curb rash also?

My policy specifically states that the rim will only be replaced or repaired if it WILL NOT hold air.

What company is your policy with?

No warranty here either. The roads here in Floirda are free from pot holes and I now have the Avon 550 A/S that cost $130 each. I am on my third set of tires (all paid for by the dealer) and if I need a tire from a blowout or road debris, I will just call tirerack and go for the new tire. I guess I've been lucky so far.

bocatrip: did your dealer pay for your tire because of uneven wear? Are you on stock 17s or 18s?

The one I have is Intire. It won't fix curb rash, but it will fix bent rims. Even the slightest bend and even if it still holds air.
