Slip, VDC off, and Service Engine Soon lights
I have a problem with my car today driving to school.
Please read and provide a diagnosis and/or a solution if you are able to OR recommend a service place/center.
Here's the story:
I was stopping at a red light this morning waiting for it to turn green. Immediately before the light turned green, I looked at the instrument cluster and noticed all the cluster lights were on (brake, check engine, VDC, SLIP, etc) and the engine was off. I then put it in park and attempted to restart the car. After a short hesitation/delay at starting, it started. I got to where I need to go without a problem. Then when driving home today, it was going like 40 and then the engine turned off. All the lights were on again and I managed to pull over and again restarted the engine after it hesitated a little. I was able to drive home (about 7 miles from there) without another incident. The lights that were on while driving home were: SLIP, VDC off, Service Engine Soon.
I am thinking something is up with the VDC system since it's the most obvious from the lights....I would like to avoid the dealership for service if possible.....
Does anyone know what's going on? Please provide your input and any help will be appreciated. Thank you guys.

Now, this doesn't fit with the car dying, but I've had the ABS, brake, and VDC lights all come on from the brake fluid being a tiny bit low. I could drive around for a while with no lights on, but any heavy acceleration or braking would throw all three lights on. I don't recall the CE light coming on though.

Yes, I got it fixed at Sewell. The dealer gave the same diagnosis as the one I got from Autozone. The problem was a defective camshaft sensor. So it's now replaced and car seems to drive a little better or maybe it's my imagination. There was a recall in 2003 for this problem but apparently my car was not included according to the VIN history and service done at Sewell from the previous owner.

Sounds about right. My old maxima had a problem with both of the crank shaft sensors.... caused all kinds of weird problems. EASIEST repair I've EVER done on ANY car. One is in the timing chain cover and took literally 2 mins to replace. The other was down near the oil pan and it took about 10 mins after I adjusted the car to turn the wheel all the way one direction to get to it (and it's lowered). Hopefully they didn't charge you anything because it was a recall
