Engine Flooding

Hi There, I am brand new to the forum and I was hoping someone would be able to help me.
I own a 2004 coupe auto. Its bone stock except for a z-tube installed 5 years ago. Recently, I've had issues with the engine flooding on a cold start up. I would try to crank it over, and I would have to rev the crap out of the engine, spewing lots of grey smoke to clear the cylinders of excess fuel when starting. It does not happen every time, but its been about 4 times in the last 2 months.

I don't really have the extra cash to go get it diagnosed at a shop, and I am a very DYI kind of guy ( I do gun smithing on the side). So I am hoping that someone might have some advice on what to look for, or what may be the cause of the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Try cleaning your MAF sensor. How many miles do you have on the car? Spark plug change time possibly?

Are you sure the smoke isn't some oil Being burnt off?

It has about 80,000 miles on it. The MAF sensor idea is something I will look into. The plugs have not been changed since I bought the car 5 years ago.

You could have a leaky injector that is flooding the cylinder over night. You can attach a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and observe how long it takes for the pressure to drop.
