Question 2007 G35 Journey RWD Persistent TPMS Light

Hello, everyone! I am new to the forum and am hoping I can get to know some folks and ask some questions about my awesome G35. The car has been in my family since new, and in the past week has had an issue arise.

The TPMS warning light will not go away. The car has been driven quite a bit with tires at 35 PSI, I've filled the spare to 60 PSI in the trunk, and I've taken the car to America's Tire and all the sensors in the drive wheels are functioning and are ok. The TPMS system was also reset by the tech at America's Tire and the light came back on again!!

I am wondering, is there a sensor in the spare that could be bad? Is the TPMS system faulty? I'm stuck on how to move forward.

Thank you so much!

You can put the TPMS system into diagnostic mode and it will flash a sort of morse code on the dash that will tell you what the malfunctioning component is.

To get into diagnostic mode you first need to access the TPMS harness, it's taped to the back of the OBD2 diagnostic port, look up under the dash and you will see a single wire with a harness on the end taped to the wiring right at the diagnostic port. Untape it (really recommend not using a knife to prevent damaging wires) then you can pull that harness down below the dash so it's more accessible. Now all you have to do is literally ground out that harness, just take a piece of wire, stab it into the harness and hold it onto chassis metal like the brake pedal (won't work on a painted surface. On the V35 chassis you had to tap it 3 times to get it to diagnostic mode, I think on the V36 chassis you just have to hold it to ground.

Now pay close attention to that morse code flash pulse, it is sending out a "code" that you reference to this chart in the FSM. As you can see when it first goes into diagnostic mode it will be solid on for 5 seconds, then solid off for 5 seconds, THEN flash the codes, then repeat 5on, 5off, codes, rinse/repeat.

If you can't figure out what the code is just use your phone and make a video of it flashing, post it to youtube, then put the link here.

Basically the number of LONG flashes is the first digit of the code, immediately followed by the number of RAPID flashes that is the second digit.

So 3 long 5 short would be code 35, 1 long 6 short would be code 16.
