POP is ka band, not laser.

it is off by default because not many places use POP radar guns, and POP detection is prone to false alarms.

careful with the zr3, there is at least 1 laser that can defeat its jamming. afaik, blinder makes the only product that can successfully jam all lasers currently on the market.

laser jammers are legal in most states (and provinces) because transmission of infrared light is under the jurisdiction of the FDA and is not illegal, and that is how they work.

radar jammers are highly illegal because they require active broadcasts which falls under the jurisdiction of the FCC, and there are big fines for unauthorized broadcasts.

More regarding radar "jammers" ~ these things don't work. They are junk technology, might as well go buy a "time machine" from ebay. As stated by other users, to effectively jam radar you must broadcast/send a disruptive transmission - which is illegal by FCC regulations. The way these "jammers" work is they emit an FM "chirp." Think of it almost like an FM modulator in your car... you are broadcasting a signal, but the power is so low and the range so smal that it's not disruptive to anyone other than your own radio and MAYBE the guy riding your @ss. Now imagine trying to emit a chirp that's strong enough to get all the way to the cop that's painting you with the radar. On top of that, radar guns receive many reply echos, and they take the strongest one, discarding the rest. So EVEN if you managed to get an FM chirp ALL the way to the cop with the gun, 99.99999999% chance that gun is simply going to discard it as a weak/trash signal and take a stronger reply.

just my $0.02

Can you point to the source of information where the zr3 failed to jam a laser? I'm interested in getting the zr3 due to the reviews I've seen and how it intergrates with my 8500.

You must be referring to this:

http://www.radarbusters.com/support/...ming-tests.asp

Even the Blinder didn't jam that particular gun, only the Pro version which isn't even available yet.

Can a recent model Escort 8500 (non x50) work with the ZR3?

Yes. I believe teh ZR3 can work standalone, but you can plug it into the 8500 and it will display when it's shifting.

Great thread, does anyone have an idea how the ZR3 display unit works? I would use this with my 8500, but I am curious still. It is interesting that it has two sensors for the front.

This looks like a better deal than the K40, esp. on ebay from what I hear.

Sorry, but I only do installs on my own car (G35 or not) because I'm just a hobbyist and not a pro; I would not want the liability of working on someone else's car, especially a nice one.

Hey Miami, I'm seriously considering the ZR3 to go along with my new X50, but I have some specific questions first that i can't find the answers to in the owners manuals of either. First, where did you get this optional "link cable" that goes between the ZR3 and X50? Is it a regular phone cord? Also, if I use this link cable, do i have to also wire power to the X50, or does it go through the ZR3 box and to the X50? Finally, does the mute button that comes with the ZR3 also mute the x50? I've been thinking about getting the direct wire cord with remote mute for the X50, but if the ZR3 does that stuff, then I can bypass that purchase and just with the ZR3.... Thanks

1) The "link cable" comes with the ZR3 and is what connects the ZR3 control module to the X50.
2) I think it is a regular phone chord but not 100% sure. It's really moot since it comes with the ZR3.
3) You only have to wire the ZR3 control module to get power. The X50 power is derived from the ZR3 control module via the link cable.
4) The mute button does mute the X50 for both radar and laser encounters. Remember that the X50 becomes the central end-user control panel/interface. The ZR3 control module is hidden.
5) Yes, gettting the ZR3 negates the need to buy the Escort direct wire cord and remote mute.

Hope this helps
