Thumbs up Midpipe installed - What a difference a piece of pipe makes...

Finally got around to installing the midpipe. It was very simple to do until I stripped a bolt connecting to y-pipe - the very last bolt. Pissed me off. So, instead of a 45min to an hour install, it took about 2hours. I simply cannot understand why the sedan resonator midpipe weighs so much more that the coupe midpipe. I bent the heat shield back a little bit, but I did not remove the bracket in front of the shield.

Like everyone else that did this mod said, the weight savings alone is worth it. The stock midpipe is a monster. After removing the stock midpipe, installing the new, lighter coupe midpipe was a breeze. the bolts to the y-pipe was the hardest to remove. There is a ground wire that connects to the muffler.

The sound is mesmerizing and the car feels a lot smoother. Don't know if there is an increase in HP, but the car feels more responsive.

I let my wife drive it last night to get her opinion and she said she opened it to hear that wonderful bass. I have an automatic and she said that I did it to make it sound like I am driving a stick. She especially likes it when the revs drop back down. She has always had manual transmission vehicles. The sound at idle is very quiet.

This is a must upgrade for all sedan owners.

Word of caution re: cross tunnel bracket ... (glad to see you left it in place).
This is a safety device.... to catch the drive shaft if there is a broken joint.

For others with this mod....
If you have clearance problems with the bracket....
Re-shape it, do not remove it.

Congrats! It seems that this particular mod is very popular and productive for all, whom choose it. I know of 2 other peolpe who are quite pleased with their decision to do as such. My brother, whom has an '04 6MT Sedan is awaiting my middy for the said swap. After reading your post, I think he will be knocking at my door in a matter of minutes.

I wrapped exhaust tape around the pipe where it would hit the cross brace because it kept on banging on it.

It looks like a 1/4" clearance between said bracket and midpipe. I will listen carefully and take intgr8r's advice if any banging or rattling occurs.

Glad our fat-*** coupes could be of assistance in helping your skinny *** lose a few more pounds.

Enjoy the exhaust note.

Hey rupdog, where can I get a coupe midpipe? Can I order it from somewhere? Thanks in advance

I ordered it from here:

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=6&catalogid=2

They call it a center muffler. A lot of guys ordered theirs used but I preffered to pay the extra $ and get it new. Also remember to order new gaskets. One is an o-ring that goes to the muffler and one is a metal gasket that goes to the y-pipe.

Thanks again. I was just curious, what do you think the weight difference is between the two

Are new gaskets necessary? I was going to install my midpipe this weekend.

I would get a new gasket set if possible. Future headaches avoided.

How does the bracket attach to the chassis? I know on my 96 Maxima we had a bar that went across the center tunnel with the purpose being it would catch the exhaust if a hanger broke in wreck. The bar attached with one bolt on either side of the tunnel. When adding exhausts, most of us just added washers to locate the bar in a lower position and add clearance near the pipe. I don't know if this would be possible on the G or not.

The purpose on the G is to catch the drive shaft.
The exhaust runs below the bracket.

Any chance you can upload a sound clip? I just installed glass pack in place of my big ugly pre-muffler -- you can hear my sound clips if you find the post, I made it yesterday or the day before.

Sounds decent.
