I've been wanting to do that install, but I'm weary of the cross bar. Is it a clearance problem on certain years or on all of them? I've read that some people remove them, which I don't want to do, and I hear that some people get them cut and re-welded. So my question is how close is the pipe from touching the bar?

There is another option that works well and sounds great. I had a "custom b-pipe" made at the local shop with a 4" round x 14" long magnaflow resonator.
He cut the old res. out and welded the new one in in about 15 - 20 minutes. They charged about $110. It passes the wife test, is unobtrusive at speed, and sounds REALLY good with the windows down. It is louder than stock, but in no way is it too loud. Great thing about this mod is that it looks stock but sounds much better.

I initially tried to re-shape it but had no luck. Very hard to do without a vise. I think I am going to try the exhaust tape option.
I took it out after a couple of weeks of driving with the middy....started to bang over bumps.

This is a safety device.... to catch the drive shaft if there is a broken joint.
For others with this mod....
If you have clearance problems with the bracket....
Re-shape it, do not remove it.
