I didn't weigh them, but the coupe midpipe weighs @16 lbs and my guesstimate for the stock sedan midpipe would be @ 40-50 lbs. It is as heavy as it looks.

I've been wanting to do that install, but I'm weary of the cross bar. Is it a clearance problem on certain years or on all of them? I've read that some people remove them, which I don't want to do, and I hear that some people get them cut and re-welded. So my question is how close is the pipe from touching the bar?

There is another option that works well and sounds great. I had a "custom b-pipe" made at the local shop with a 4" round x 14" long magnaflow resonator.
He cut the old res. out and welded the new one in in about 15 - 20 minutes. They charged about $110. It passes the wife test, is unobtrusive at speed, and sounds REALLY good with the windows down. It is louder than stock, but in no way is it too loud. Great thing about this mod is that it looks stock but sounds much better.

I just took mine off but after reading inTgr8r post, I can see how it is best left in place.

I initially tried to re-shape it but had no luck. Very hard to do without a vise. I think I am going to try the exhaust tape option.

I took it out after a couple of weeks of driving with the middy....started to bang over bumps.

Good LORD! I had no idea our stock mid pipe was THAT BIG! Looks like a small bar fridge.

Why is it so damn big?

This is a safety device.... to catch the drive shaft if there is a broken joint.

For others with this mod....
If you have clearance problems with the bracket....
Re-shape it, do not remove it.

Whoops I removed it... but that was before it got totalled. so w/e

there are a couple of theories on this... one being: at some point the sedans were supposed too have dual exhaust. which is why the exhaust side is offset to the left... there was originally room on the right for another exhaust pipe.
others being to keep it quiet to signify the luxury part of the sedan blah, blah...

i got mine done for $80 installed in socal. exact setup. not too loud, but drones when combined with my blitz nur-spec at about 2000 rpms under load. but at wot.... man. it sounds awesome. and a noticeable gain up top too. (combined with intake, plenum, headers, cats, y-pipe, and dr. gas reducer)

It seems like I remember seeing an early (pre-production) photo of the underside of the G and indeed it did have two exhaust outlets. I can't swear to it though.
